Rush Shooting News – Production To Continue, Despite Investigation

A year later, in October 2022, the Rust production company, along with Baldwin, reached a settlement for an undisclosed amount with Hutchins’ family in the wake of the wrongful death suit.
It was subsequently announced that Rust production would resume in 2023. However, following the settlement announcement, Santa Fe’s district attorney said that the criminal investigation would continue in spite of the civil settlement (via TMZ).
Rush Shooting News – Decision Expected In January 2023
District Attorney Carmack-Altwies was granted additional funding of $317,750 to continue investigating the high-profile case (via Deadline). At the time, Carmack-Altwies wrote in a letter to the State of New Mexico Board of Finance that she expected to prosecute “up to four individuals” if it was decided that charges were warranted.
In the letter, she wrote that “many individuals had handled the gun that ultimately killed Hutchins”. Though no timeline has been established for announcing charges, a decision is reportedly expected by the end of January 2023.
Rush Shooting News – No One Is Above The Law
Following the civil settlement in October, a spokesperson for the DA said in a statement: “The proposed settlement in Matthew Hutchins’ wrongful death case against Rust movie producers, including Alec Baldwin, in the death of Halyna Hutchins, will have no impact on District Attorney Mary Carmack-Altwies’ ongoing investigation or her ultimate decision whether to file criminal charges in the case.
“While civil suits are settled privately and often involve financial awards, criminal cases deal only in facts. If the facts and evidence warrant criminal charges under New Mexico law, then charges will be brought. No one is above the law.”
