Ryan Gosling In Negotiations To Join Star Wars Movie

Ryan Gosling In Negotiations To Join Star Wars MovieRyan Gosling, best known for his role in Barbie, is reportedly negotiating to star in director Shawn Levy’s highly anticipated Star Wars project. Levy, celebrated for directing Deadpool and Wolverine, has been developing this standalone Star Wars film since 2022.

Sources suggest that if Gosling officially joins the project, production could begin as early as this autumn. The Star Wars film is expected to take precedence over Levy’s other commitments, including a boy band movie starring Ryan Reynolds and Hugh Jackman.

Details About The Upcoming Star Wars Movie

Details about the storyline remain under wraps, including its setting within the Star Wars timeline and any possible ties to the Skywalker saga.

However, it has been confirmed that the movie will be a standalone addition to the franchise, much like 2018’s Solo: A Star Wars Story.

Shawn Levy has emphasized his creative freedom in shaping this project. In a 2023 interview with Variety, he shared, “When [Lucasfilm president] Kathy Kennedy brought me on board to make a Star Wars movie, her central mandate to me was, ‘I want a Shawn Levy movie. I want a story and a tone that reflects you and your taste and what you bring to your movies – with a Star Wars story.’ I feel very empowered to trust my instincts in the development of this story and movie.”

Levy will collaborate with his frequent partner Jonathan Tropper, who is penning the script. The film will also be produced by Levy and Kennedy.

Interestingly, this isn’t Gosling’s first brush with the Star Wars universe. He was once rumored to be in the running for the role of Kylo Ren in 2015’s Star Wars: The Force Awakens, though Adam Driver ultimately took on the part.

The Star Wars cinematic franchise has been on hiatus since the release of The Rise of Skywalker in 2019. However, the saga is set to return to theaters with The Mandalorian & Grogu, directed by Jon Favreau, slated for release in May 2026.

Beyond Levy’s project, several directors, including Patty Jenkins, Rian Johnson, James Mangold, and Taika Waititi, are also developing Star Wars films.

Insight Into The Approach Of Selecting Roles

While fans eagerly await confirmation of Gosling’s involvement, the actor has shared insights into his current approach to selecting roles.

Speaking to The Wall Street Journal in May 2024, he revealed, “I don’t really take roles that are going to put me in some kind of dark place. This moment is what I feel like trying to read the room at home and feel like what is going to be best for all of us. The decisions I make, I make them with Eva, and we make them with our family in mind first.”

He also expressed a desire to create films that resonate with a broader audience. “I want to make stuff that’s inclusive and that’s not for an audience of one. For so long, I was just trying to pay the bills and work. It’s only recently that I realized I have this opportunity to actually make the kind of films that made me love movies.”

Whether Gosling ultimately joins the Star Wars galaxy remains to be seen, but his involvement would undoubtedly bring a fresh perspective to this iconic universe.
