The friends, both 45, underwent the procedure to raise awareness about the potentially life-threatening condition that can appear without any warning signs.

Ryan Reynolds – On Why He Allowed His Medical Procedure To Be Televised

Ryan Reynolds is back on our screens again, and this time, it’s for something only a few will dare to capture on camera. The new video, showing the two actors and football-club owners share their experience getting preventative colonoscopies, was released by colon-cancer-awareness organization Lead from Behind in association with the Colorectal Cancer Alliance.

At the start of the video, Ryan Reynolds explained the reason why he was so bold as to let the cameras follow him on his preventative colonoscopy journey. He said that he made a bet with McElhenney that if he learned to speak Welsh, he, Reynolds, would allow cameras to video the procedure.

“He was so sure he said he’d publicly broadcast his colonoscopy if I could do it,” McElhenney revealed in Welsh, via captions.

Reynolds then said that when he and the “It’s Always Sunny In Philadelphia” actor turned 45, they knew that it was high-time they got a colonoscopy.

“It’s a simple step that could literally, and I mean literally, save your life,” Reynolds assured.

Ryan Reynolds’ – Test Reveals He Has An “Extremely Subtle” Condition

The video then showed Reynolds arriving for his procedure, with the doctor taking the time to explain that the “stunningly effective” test takes about 30 minutes to complete.

After completing the test, the doctor notified Ryan Reynolds that they’d found an “extremely subtle polyp” located on the right side of his colon.

“This was potentially life-saving for you — I’m not kidding, I’m not being overly dramatic,” the doctor told the actor. “This is exactly why you do this. You had no symptoms.”

The footage then shows viewers the actual scan of the polyp. After the doctor explained how it was removed, he added, “You are interrupting the natural history of a disease of something of a process that could have ended up developing into cancer and causing all sorts of problems.”

When it came to McElhenney’s turn, the actor couldn’t help making a joke of how he’s always being competitive against Ryan Reynolds.

I figure I can’t go wrong in terms of comparing myself to Ryan,” joked the “Mythic Quest” star. “They either find nothing and that means my colon was cleaner than his, or they find a polyp and it’s either bigger than his, which is awesome, or it’s smaller than his, which means I had less of an opportunity to have cancer — either way, I win.”

After the test, the doctor revealed that he only has good news, saying that McElhenney had three polyps, but that they were small ones and “were not a big deal”. The doctor also made it clear that it was still a good thing that they were discovered early and removed.
