For weeks now, writers have been seeking their due pay and the studios are not ready to negotiate on friendly terms. This has led to an even bigger strike breaking out and the UK market even joining in. More shows are being cancelled and the labor union president, Fran Drescher, says it’s all because of a “greedy entity.”

Fran Drescher Says Talks Disintegrated Because the Studio’s Offer Wasn’t Fair
On Thursday’s press event announcing that SAG-AFTRA has joined the strike, Drescher made an impassioned speech. During the press conference, she addressed members of the union and the press on the reason why the talks yielded no results
“We had no choice,” Drescher, who was elected in 2022 said, “We are the victims here. We are being victimized by a very greedy entity. I am shocked by the way the people we have been in business with are treating us. I cannot believe it, quite frankly, how far apart we are on so many things. How they plead poverty, that they’re losing money left and right, while giving millions to CEOs. It’s disgusting. Shame on them.”
Writers have come forward to reveal the meagre residuals they get from writing scripts for top earning movies and TV shows, pleading for the people at the top to part with a couple millions in favor of fairly compensating writers.
On the other hand, actors are fighting to have additional compensation when AI likenesses of them are used in movies, among other things.

Fran Drescher Says AMPTP Stands On the “Wrong Side of History”
After being in extended negotiations with AMPTP for well over a month, Drescher had nothing nice to say about them.
“They stand on the wrong side of history at this very moment,” she continued. “We stand in solidarity [and] in unprecedented unity. Our union and sister unions and unions around the world are standing by us, as well as other labor unions. Because, at some point, the jig is up. You cannot keep being dwindled and marginalized and disrespected and dishonored.
The entire business model has been changed by streaming, digital and AI. This is a moment of history that is a moment of truth. If we don’t stand tall right now, we are all going to be in trouble. We are all going to be in jeopardy of being replaced by machines and big business, [which] cares more about Wall Street than you and your family.”
Another thing that the union leader addressed was the criticism around her appearance at the Italy Dolce & Gabbana show with Kim Kardashian. She defended herself against the criticisms by saying that she and the reality TV mogul were simply working.
