Sandy Yawn from Below Deck Med on Bravo is steaming angry because her wife, Leah Shafer, didn’t get the answers they hoped for in the ER this weekend. Read on to find out what’s happening.

Furious During Health Crisis

Leah and Sandy are happily married and they often shout each other out on social media. However, this weekend, Sandy took to her Instagram and vented about a worrying situation with Leah. The captain from the Bravo show wasn’t happy at all, and explained what was wrong with her wife.

My wife Leah is in visible, debilitating pain – red, swollen eye, extreme light sensitivity, and sharp shooting pain through her brow.

Well, she’s upset because the “ER sent her home with, ‘We don’t know what’s wrong, here’s some pain meds!’”

Very worried, she lashed out because something clearly was wrong. Explaining more, Captain Sandy Yawn said, “A CT scan confirmed a 3.5 cm mucus retention cyst in her sinus cavity. Ophthalmology says her eyes ‘look healthy.’ ENT says it may be neurological. Some doctors say post-COVID.”

A Lack Of Concern

What to do when you’re worried about your loved one, and there don’t seem to be any answers? How do you deal with frustration when there seems to be a lack of care? Irritated, Sandy added, “The bedside manner in the ER was dismissive. No urgency. No ownership. Just pain medication and uncertainty.”

Then, she talked about how Leah Shafer works hard as a “medical esthetician” at her own “skin studio.” Perhaps she contrasted the effort that Leah puts in with the lack of care at the ER.

From her point of view, the Below Deck Med captain felt angry because Leah really wasn’t well. Some of her symptoms included not being “able to see or walk.” Notably, Sandy Yawn felt that the indifference came because Leah is a “woman in pain.”

Comments & Reactions

A lot of people in the comments section told Sandy Yawn that she needs to get Leah to a specialist. Some suggestions arrived, and those came from fans and other medical professionals.

One of them told Sandy, “I’m a dr and saw your post. Please have her get a CT venogram of the brain to evaluate for dural venous sinus thrombosis (a routine ct wouldn’t show this and is consistent with the symptoms).”

Here are a few more responses from the discussion section:

  • Need a EENT specialist, ER is definitely not the place to get that worked on.
  • Welcome to the world of chronic pain suffers. Where gaslighting is a permanent feature of our life.
  • Unfortunately, the emergency department exists to evaluate and rule out true emergencies.

What are your thoughts? Can you relate to feeling that the ER doesn’t take everything seriously enough? Or do you understand that if a condition isn’t immediately life-threatening, folks should move on and see a specialist?
