Sarah Michelle Gellar has made an interesting discovery, and that discovery has led her to finally reconcile herself to the reality of a possible ‘Buffy the Vampire Slayer’ return. It’s possible that seeing the fan reaction to the news of ‘I Know What You Did Last Summer’s’ return has made her open up to the potential of having another ‘Buffy.’
Sarah Michelle Gellar Said No To ‘Buffy the Vampire Slayer’ Reboot Because the Original Show Was “Perfect”
When you have something special and beautiful, you wouldn’t want to ruin it or tire people out with it, right?
As a fan, there are movies and TV shows I wish was left alone when it ended, and there are others I wish constantly to come online to news of a sequel, a reboot or even a spinoff.
Sometimes, there are shows that we love that, on the one hand we think it’s perfect and if it gets extended it might get ruined, and yet we’re not ready to say goodbye to yet.
That was the sort of thing that Sarah Michelle Gellar dealt with and overcame when it came to a ‘Buffy’ revival.
“It’s funny. I always used to say no, because it’s in its bubble, and it’s so perfect,” Gellar revealed on the Friday, Dec. 13 episode of The Drew Barrymore Show. “But watching Sex and the City [sequel series, And Just Like That] and seeing Dexter, and realizing there are ways to do it, definitely does get your mind thinking, ‘Well, maybe.’”
Gellar, who is currently starring in ‘Dexter: Original Sin,’ also admitted that she’s open to the show’s revival taking any kind of form. “It could be anything,” the actress said. “It’s a universe. And it makes you realize that in this world, we need those heroes, I think, more so than ever.”

Sarah Michelle Gellar Says ‘Buffy’ Explores The “Horrors of Adolescence”
Gellar had previously spoken up about reprising her titular heroine in the series during a 2022 interview with SFX Magazine. When asked about reprising the role of Buffy, she sweetly declined, citing that the show connected with the audience due to its adolescent themes.
“I am very proud of the show that we created and it doesn’t need to be done,” she said. “We wrapped that up. I am all for them continuing the story because there’s the story of female empowerment. I love the way the show was left: ‘Every girl who has the power can have the power.’ It’s set up perfectly for someone else to have the power. But like I said, the metaphors of Buffy were the horrors of adolescence. I think I look young, but I am not an adolescent.”
‘Buffy the Vampire Slayer’ was adapted from a 1992 film of the same name, which starred Kristy Swanson. Gellar played the titular character Buffy Summers in the series, which ran from 1997 to 2003. It sees Buffy and friends band together to fight the forces of darkness, including demons, vampires and many others.
