Sarah Michelle Gellar Reveals the One Thing That Makes ‘Buffy’ Reboot Nerve-wracking

Sarah Michelle Gellar Reveals the One Thing That Makes 'Buffy' Reboot Nerve-wrackingOnce upon a time, Sarah Michelle Gellar told us that she isn’t sure any more juice can be squeezed out of her popular show ‘Buffy the Vampire Slayer.’

So when the news of a reboot surfaced, I know, like every other normal fanbase in the world, we were pleasantly surprised to find that a reboot was being considered and that it has even found a home at Hulu.

But if you think they’re bringing back ‘Buffy’ for the sake of bringing her back – and also for the side effect that it’ll line their pockets with lots of money – you haven’t met Sarah Michelle Gellar.

She’s in a state of panic trying to make sure fans get the show they deserve.

Sarah Michelle Gellar Opens Up About ‘Buffy the Vampire Slayer’s’ “Exciting” Reboot

Gellar is feeling the immense pressure of trying to “do it right” that while she’s excited to step back into Buffy’s shoes after so many years, she also finds the experience “incredibly nerve-wracking.”

“I wish there was a better word than overwhelming. It’s heartwarming and exciting and also incredibly nerve-wracking at the same time,” she said on Feb. 15 at the 12th Annual Makeup Artists & Hair Stylists Guild Awards.

She added, “Nerve-wracking because you have to do it right.”

Happily, some of Gellar’s nervous energies find a way of floating away whenever she remembers the powerful team that’s been assembled to helm the show.

“I think we have this team in place that is legendary, from Chloé Zhao to the Zucks [Nora and Lilla Zuckerman], to Gail Berman,” she explained. “And I think people are going to be pretty impressed.”

While Gellar will be returning in her beloved Buffy role, the show will essentially focus on a new slayer in what has been called a Buffyverse resurrection.

The still-untitled show is said to be currently in development at 20th Television and Searchlight TV for Hulu.

Oscar winner Zhao will direct and executive produce Hulu’s Buffyverse pilot, with the Zukermans attached to write, showrun and executive produce. Gellar is also set to executive produce the series, alongside the show’s original executive producers.
