Scooter Braun appeared to understand “All Too Well” that he was left off of the guest list for the most anticipated event of the summer.
The 43-year-old recording mogul used social media to mockingly tease Taylor Swift following her high-profile party that she had over the weekend at her $17 million Rhode Island home.
“I finally watched it,” Braun wrote as he posted a picture from the Max documentary “Taylor Swift vs. Scooter Braun: Bad Blood” on his Instagram account.
This documentary explores the much-publicized conflict between the 34-year-old Swift and Braun, who recently announced his retirement from music management, with particular attention to his contentious purchase of Swift’s master recordings.
Braun’s Instagram Posts Stir Controversy
Braun posted another Instagram story featuring a TMZ post with photos from Swift’s party. He humorously questioned, “How was I not invited to this?!?” and added the hashtag “#laughalittle” in the bottom corner.
The gathering at Swift’s Ocean State home was in honor of her close friend Blake Lively’s 37th birthday. The guest list included big names such as Travis and Jason Kelce, Patrick Mahomes, Gigi Hadid, Bradley Cooper, Ryan Reynolds, and more.
The Origins of the Feud
The reason Braun didn’t make the guest list is well-known to fans. Back in June 2019, Swift wrote a Tumblr post accusing the Hybe America CEO of taking away her “life’s work” when he acquired her masters.
“I had to make the excruciating choice to leave behind my past,” she shared at the time. Swift described Braun’s acquisition of her catalog, which included albums from her 2006 debut to 2017’s “Reputation,” as a “worst-case scenario.”
In her post, Swift expressed her dismay over signing a deal at 15 that left her with little control over her work. “This is what happens when you sign a deal at fifteen to someone for whom the term ‘loyalty’ is clearly just a contractual concept,” she stated. She criticized Braun for seeing the value of music as something controlled by those who didn’t create it.
On the other hand, Braun has offered a different perspective, telling Variety in 2021 that he had reached out to Swift multiple times to discuss the deal, but she declined. “I regret [it] and it makes me sad that Taylor had that reaction to the deal,” he said. “All of what happened has been very confusing and not based on anything factual.”
Swift’s Decision to Reclaim Her Music
Swift, in a 2019 Vogue interview, admitted that she didn’t attempt to buy back her master recordings when given the chance, which eventually led Braun to sell them for over $300 million.
She explained her decision, saying, “It was either investing in my past or my and other artists’ future, and I chose the future.”
Since then, Swift has re-recorded her earlier albums, taking charge of her music. She has so far published the following songs: “1989 (Taylor’s Version),” “Speak Now (Taylor’s Version),” “Red (Taylor’s Version),” and “Fearless (Taylor’s Version).” As she continues to play fresh songs on the Eras Tour in addition to selections from her most recent album, “The Tortured Poets Department,” fans are excitedly anticipating her next re-recording.
Braun’s Career Changes
Braun’s career has also undergone substantial adjustments in the interim. He worked with some of the biggest stars in the business over the course of his 23-year career, including Justin Bieber, Demi Lovato, and Ariana Grande. Earlier this summer, he announced his retirement from music management.
However, reports last summer suggested that many of Braun’s top clients were parting ways with him. Puck News reported that Bieber and Braun, who had collaborated for the singer’s entire career, had not spoken in months, while Billboard and People reported that Grande was also splitting from Braun.
Public Reactions to Braun’s Posts and The Ongoing Conflict
Despite their long-standing feud, Braun’s recent social media posts show that he is willing to poke fun at the situation, although Swift’s fans were quick to react.
Responses ranged from anger to frustration, with one fan writing on social platform X, “Stay away from Taylor you stupid obsessed freak,” and another saying, “Him keeping her name in his mouth is the only way he stays relevant.”
Swift’s ongoing efforts to reclaim her music, along with Braun’s attempts to address the past, continue to draw public interest, making this one of the most discussed conflicts in the music industry.
