Breaking celebrity news, as it is being reported that music mogul Sean ‘Diddy’ Combs has been acquitted of sex trafficking and racketeering conspiracy in his federal criminal trial.
With that said, he was still found guilty of two counts of transportation to engage in prostitution. More on this story, below.
Diddy’s Sentencing
While the juror verdict was just released, Combs could still serve a maximum sentence of 20 years, 10 years for each of the ‘transportation to engage in prostitution’ convictions.
At the age of 55, had Diddy been convicted of any other charges, he may have faced a life sentence in jail.
With that said, the defense has requested that their client be released while he awaits his sentencing, something the prosecution was against.
The judge will decide after a formal argument from both sides is submitted, which has a deadline of 1 p.m. EST, Wednesday, July 2.
The Reaction To The Verdict
CNN is reporting that after the verdict was read, Diddy faced the courtroom gallery, clapped, and his loved ones applauded back.
Meanwhile, Cassie Ventura’s lawyer, Doug Wigdor, noted in a statement that his client ‘paved the way’ for a jury to find Diddy guilty on some of the charges against him.
He adds, “This entire criminal process started when our client Cassie Ventura had the courage to file her civil complaint in November 2023.”
Wigdor went on to say, “Although the jury did not find Combs guilty of sex trafficking Cassie beyond a reasonable doubt, she paved the way for a jury to find him guilty of transportation to engage in prostitution.”
The lawyer states that Venture left a mark on both the, “… entertainment industry and the fight for justice.” He added that his client showed courage throughout the trial and placed a spotlight on the, “…realities of powerful men in our orbit and the misconduct that has persisted for decades without repercussion.”
Defense lawyer, Marc Agnifilo told the judge that, Sean ‘Diddy’ Combs, “… has been given his life by this jury.”
