Robert De Niro is a dad… for the seventh time! And guess what? No one knew about the happy event until he decided to update everyone on the number of kids he actually has.

On May 8, ET sat down with Robert De Niro to talk about his upcoming movie, “About My Father.” One fatherhood talk quickly led to another and before we knew what was happening, we were no longer thinking that De Niro only had six kids.

When ET Canada’s Brittnee Blair asked the 79-year-old actor what his love language was like, he replied that loving his children is his main priority, but he did point out that he’s not fun dad all the time as he does have “to be stern about stuff” sometimes.

“I mean, there’s no way around it with kids. I don’t like to have to lay down the law and stuff like that. But, [sometimes] you just have no choice,” he explained. “And any parent, I think, would say the same thing. You always want to do the right thing by the children and give them the benefit of the doubt but sometimes you can’t.”

When Blair referenced his “six kids,” he quickly put her right by announcing that he has “seven” after welcoming a baby. His press team would later confirm that the actor is now a father of seven, even though there was no mention of who the mother is.

Despite being called a “cool dad” by the actor who plays his son in “About My Father,” De Niro confessed that he simply can’t see his children associating him with the term.

“I’m okay,” he told Blair. “You know, my kids disagree with me at times, and they’re respectful. My daughter, she’s 11, she gives me grief sometimes and I argue with her. I adore her, but, you know. And my youngest now, that’ll be more to come. But, that’s what it is.”

De Niro has been married twice to Diahnne Abbott and Grace Hightower – both of whom he shares two children with – and has fathered two children with former girlfriend Toukie Smith.
