According to Selena Gomez, she’s been wanting to do a Spanish language project for over ten years, but apart from a Spanish remix of A Year Without Rain, it wasn’t until 2021 that her plans to include her Spanish heritage into her art came to fruition.
Selena Gomez announced early in 2021 of an upcoming Spanish-language EP that will serve to showcase her strengths in something other than the music that she’s known for. While she admitted that she had always looked forward to doing Spanish language songs that will highlight half of her heritage, as she is half Mexican as well, she wants something that her fans would love.
Selena Gomez’s First Spanish-language EP Revelación
The first single off of the upcoming EP was De Una Vez, which peaked at number 40 on the Billboard Global 200 and the Billboard Hot 100 chart at 92.
The song was followed by a music video that got fans thinking back to her Wizards of Waverly Places days, due to the glowing heart symbol around her neck. As the fans of the show probably know, “the heart” glows when the person wearing it is in love with the person they received the necklace from, and it’s pretty hard not to make that comparison when there’s a glowing heart on Selena’s neck the whole of the video.
“You know what’s funny is I actually think I sing better in Spanish. That was something I discovered. It was a lot of work, and look, you cannot mispronounce anything. It is something that needed to be precise, and needed to be respected by the audience I’m releasing it for. Of course I want everyone to enjoy the music, but I’m targeting my fan base. I’m targeting my heritage, and I couldn’t be more excited,” Selena commented on venturing into Spanish music.
The EP, which is set to be released on March 12, is also preceded by two new singles, Baila Conmigo featuring Ravv Alejandro, and the latest one, Selfish Love featuring DJ Snake, whom she collaborated with on the smash hit Taki Taki.
Just as the first single, De Una Vez, the next two also received music videos, with each video featuring elements of Mexican culture.

Selfish Love
The latest bilingual single that’s released ahead of the EP features Selena Gomez’s 2018 collaborator on the single Taki Taki. The song was released along with a mystical video that portrays Selena either as the owner of a hairstylist salon or as a hairstylist herself.
There are dancers that each have a different portrait of Selena in place of their heads, and the video ends with DJ Snake arriving in his car just as another man was being ejected from the window, coming into the salon and asking for a haircut.
Selena alternately sings both in English and Spanish language in the low-key dance track that tells the story of a girl who admits to having some jealous feelings. The song features chill saxophone rhythms.
“No one has to tell me/ You talk to other girls that are not me/ And I must confess that seeing you/ Baby, it makes me want to have you,” Selena Gomez sings at the beginning part of the music, in Spanish.
