Becoming a mother has always been top of mind for Selena Gomez, and though she won’t be able to welcome kids the traditional way, motherhood is definitely something she wants to experience.

Selena Gomez Reveals – “Huge Possibilities” In Her Plans To Become A Mother

In a recent chat with Vanity Fair, the ‘Only Murders in the Building’ star finally let fans in on a little “unfortunate” secret about herself.

“I haven’t ever said this…but I unfortunately can’t carry my own children,” Gomez said. “I have a lot of medical issues that would put my life and the baby’s in jeopardy. That was something I had to grieve for a while…”

This isn’t the first time that Selena has been open about what her lupus diagnosis means for her future plans as a mother.

Apart from complications with lupus, her bipolar diagnosis and the medications she takes for it further makes pregnancy a high risk endeavor for Selena.

She talked about this during her appearance on the April 20 episode of Miley Cyrus’ Instagram Live show Bright Minded.

After announcing her bipolar diagnosis, she added, “[But] I’m in a much better place with that. I find it a blessing that there are wonderful people willing to do surrogacy or adoption, which are both huge possibilities for me.”

“It made me really thankful for the other outlets for people who are dying to be moms. I’m one of those people,” she continued. “I’m excited for what that journey will look like, but it’ll look a little different. At the end of the day, I don’t care. It’ll be mine. It’ll be my baby.”

Selena Gomez  – Opens Up About Feeling Pain Over Reality Her Bipolar Disorder Drugs Prevent Her From Having A Safe Pregnancy

In a November 2022 interview, Selena further talked about feeling pain and having fears she won’t be able to have her own children the traditional way.

“That’s a very big, big, present thing in my life,” Selena said at the time, sharing that she often cries as a result of that possibility.

She then hopefully added, “However I’m meant to have them, I will.”

The star is currently in a loving relationship with musician Benny Blanco, and speaking on the relationship, Selena noted, “I’ve never been loved this way…He’s just been a light. A complete light in my life. He’s my best friend. I love telling him everything.”
