Shakira are you in trouble? Shakira has been dealing with personal issues involving her relationship and another issue came up. It’s been said that Waka Waka singer, 45 did not pay tax during 2012, 2013, and 2014. Well, Shakira is saying “guys, uh-uh, you don’t get to tell me I skipped tax.” Even according to Shakira’s team, Shakira is not owing, hence her preparation to go to court. Shakira on the other hand is convinced very much that she has paid off her tax dues.
Shakira — What Exactly Happened?
I’m going to explain this very well so that you’ll understand what is going on with Shakira and this tax invasion issue she has, because from the look of things, Shakira might not come out of this easily.
So, in 2018 Shakira was charged with tax invasion between the year 2012 and 2014, and according to prosecutors, she was living in Spain while claiming she was living abroad. While Shakira claims to be living somewhere else between the years 2012 and 2014 and only comes to Spain for official purposes, people who live in Spain for up to six months are considered residents and they can begin tax payments.
In the year 2015, Shakira officially made Spain her place of residence. It’s said that Shakira is owing €14.5m but her legal team claims she has paid off all tax debts which she was accused of evading in 2018, Shakira’s team claim that the singer paid over €17m due to accumulated interest that topped the dues.
Shakira — Will Shakira Go To Jail?
Last week, the Barcelona Public Prosecutors’ Office sat to discuss with Shakira to reach an agreement so that she would avoid trial but as it stands, Shakira has refused to reach an agreement with the prosecutors therefore she will be going to trial, although the prosecutor applied a mitigation of damage repair meaning that Shakira’s punishment will be reduced. The representatives of the singer said in a statement that Shakira is very sure she has offset her tax debts and is “fully confident of her innocence” they also explained how Shakira saw the whole thing, that she feels it’s a “violation of her rights”.

The Barcelona Public Prosecutors’ Office asked the Judge to make Shakira’s sentence 8 years and one month, that is, of course, if she is found guilty of tax evasion.
Shakira’s latest decision is to take the matter to court because she is so full of confidence. Her representative said that Shakira has always played by the rules and cooperated with the law, that Shakira is not a tax defaulter but a tax layer. “…and faithfully following the counsel of PriceWaterhouse Coopers, a prestigious and globally recognized tax firm.”
This tax evasion issue is coming barely two months after Shakira split with her boyfriend Gerard Pique whom she has been dating since 2011. The duo made their breakup official on June 4 and said in a joint statement “We regret to confirm that we are parting ways. For the well-being of our children, who are our highest priority, we ask that you respect their privacy. Thank you for your understanding.”
They share two sons Milan, 9, and Sasha, 7.
