Like many females fighting to get their presence noticed in their various industries, Sharon Stone had a tough time climbing the ladder of success as a Hollywood actress. But there were two men who she could remember treated her as an equal.
Robert Niro misogynistic? Not in Sharon Stone’s book.
Sharon Stone – Calls Out Misogynism From Some Of Hollywood’s Leading People
Sharon Stone knows that she is “not the most popular actor in town” yet she believes that she can bring something to a movie set and that her opinions matter as much as her male counterparts.
While chatting about her Saturday Night Live appearance alongside Sam Smith with Variety, the actress revealed that she has had her share of “misogynistic” stars who don’t value or respect her talent.
“I’ve worked with some of the biggest stars in the business, who will literally talk through my close-up, telling me what they think I should do,” she said. “They’re so misogynistic — now, that is not Robert De Niro. That is not Joe Pesci, that is not those guys.”
“But I have worked with some really big stars who will literally talk out loud through my close-up, telling me what to do,” the “Basic Instinct” star continued. “They just will not listen to me, and will not allow me to affect their performance with my performance. That’s not great acting.”
“I mean, I get that you’re great and everybody thinks you’re wonderful,” Stone candidly said. “But listening, being present for those fractured moments, is really the human experience.”
Stone most famously worked with Robert De Niro and Joe Pesci, both 79, on the 1995 film “Casino”, which explores the lives of each of their characters in 1970s and ’80s Las Vegas.
The Oscar nominee then shared the reason why she’s “not the most popular actor in town”, saying that it’s “because people don’t want to hear my, as they say, f—— opinions.”
“Maybe because of my devotion, maybe because I’m just kind of a weirdo,” Stone told the outlet. “But I’m just in it to be present.”
