Simon Cowell Responds To The Death Of Liam Payne

Simon Cowell has responded on social media to the terrible news that Liam Payne, formerly with One Direction died at the age of 31 in Argentina. When the news broke, plenty of fans sent in their tributes, but Simon was a bit slower to say anything about the former X-Factor contestant. 

Simon Cowell Put the Boyband Together 

The former American Idol judge who also worked with America’s Got Talent fell out with Harry Styles when he went on his own. And, a lot of One Direction fans have a downer on him for that. So, when the tragic death of Liam Payne emerged, some folks on Elon Musk’s X hoped the talent spotter would just stay quiet. 

Liam Payne’s death happened when he fell from the third floor of a hotel in Argentina on Wednesday. Already, conspiracy theories spring up as he seemed okay not long before his death. Whatever really happened will be debated for a long time. And now that Simon Cowell paid tribute, it’s sure to generate more social media chatter.

The Tribute Was Locked For Comments 

The infamous judge shared a black card with white text on it on Instagram on Thursday.  While the comments were locked, that doesn’t mean that One Direction fans couldn’t talk about it. Soon, comments arrived on other social media platforms. 

In his post, Simon Cowell spoke about how the death of the One Direction boyband member had made him think. He said, “You never really know how you feel about someone until a moment like this happens.” He also penned:

Liam, I am truly devastated, Heartbroken. And I feel empty. And I want you to know hiow much love and respect I have for you. Every tear I have shed is a memory of you.

More followed about how he remembered that Liam Payne was “kind, sweet, funny, thoughtful, talented, humble [and] focused.”

On Reddit, Liam Payne’s fans soon got to talking about the former American Idol judge’s tribute. Here are some of their reactions:

• I’m not going to deny him the right to grief, because sure, some type of connection was there. However, he never really had the boys’s well-being in mind at all. Just money and greed.
• I can’t help but feel like his statement rings hollow. He may not be directly responsible for Liam’s death, but he had a role in shaping the factors that led to Liam’s struggles. He never prioritized their wellbeing over profits.
• Simon sucks in general but I thought this message was really sweet and touching.
• How I interpreted the first sentence: life is complicated and so are personal relationships. You sometimes don’t truly know how you feel about someone who was in your life until there’s an accident or circumstances make you stop and take an introspective look at your relationship with that person.
