She was already a legend before this, so let’s just pack this up in the bag of legendary things only she can do. Excuse me, who has multiple gymnastic moves named after her? Not me, that’s for sure.
Simone Biles Makes Her Third Olympics Team After Getting Showered With Praise From Former Olympic Champion
On June 30, Simone Biles qualified to join team US A in the trials that took place at Minneapolis and will be off to the Olympic Games next month.
With this, she joins just a handful of gymnasts who have gone on to qualify for three teams over the course of their career: Muriel Grossfeld, Linda Metheny and Dominique Dawes.
Speaking on her immeasurable talent, 1996 gold medalist Dawes said she believed Biles would be able to snag the feat and may even go on to break it.
“It’ll be wonderful to see her outshine what I had done many decades ago,” Dawes told PEOPLE earlier in the week. “She’s definitely deserved it. I’m sure she’s not only going to help the team medal but also she’s going to individually medal as well.”
- “I keep saying this, but I could even see her training for the 2028 Games in L.A. … She is that talented,” Dawes said.
At the 2021 Tokyo games, Biles, who is considered a favorite, made headlines after she opted to withdraw from the final four games, citing that she has twisties. The word is used by gymnasts to describe a situation where they can no longer feel their body in the air.
She also took time off to work on her mental health following the competition, returning in 2023 and clinching the gold at the 2023 US Classic in the all-around competition.
Since then, she’s gone on to place the top at every other competition she’s entered, including taking home the top title at the 2024 national gymnastics championships.
Biles has been open about her struggle with mental health, which will be explored in an upcoming four-part Netflix docuseries ‘Simone Biles Rising.’
