Whoopi Gol
Whoopi Goldberg recently opened up about her return to the hit “Sister Act” movie, 30 years after she last played the aspiring singer turned wayward “sister”.
In the first movie, Goldberg’s character Deloris mistakenly witnesses a murder and is forced to hide in a church amongst sisters to avoid being found out by the people who wish to kill her.
In the latest movie, Deloris Van Cartier, aka Sister Mary Clarence, will be returning to her old tricks, but in a more mature fashion.
Whoopi Goldberg Talks About Fighting For Many Years To Have Another “Sister Act” Sequel Made
30 years between movies is not a norm in the entertainment industry, but Whoopi Goldberg’s persistence now means that fans of the original two shows will get a chance to catch a glimpse of the characters one more time.
In an interview with Entertainment Tonight, the 66-year-old actress happily shared news of the sequel, even though she wasn’t very free with the movie’s details… yet.
“I’ve been trying to do this for six years,” she said. “I was told no one was interested in this. It takes a minute for people to realize they should take their foot out of their mouth.”
While they haven’t started filming yet, “The View” co-host confirmed that the movie has been approved.
“You’re never fully happy with a script because one of the things you find is you wanna have the space to make an adjustment if you need to. Sometimes what looks right on paper doesn’t come out of your mouth the right way. You have to move it around a little bit, but I’m very hopeful people will be happy,” she said.
However, if you ask the “Ghost” actress whether watching the movie after three decades is worth it, she’d definitely say yes. “Sister Act” debuted in 1992 to a wide audience and positive reception. The following year, the sequel “Sister Act 2: Back in the Habit” dropped.
“It feels right,” she said, “Because we did Sister Act 1 and 2 back to back, which is why I think they are really great. But now you need some space on it and you need to let [my character] grow up and become an adult, which is what’s happened. We’ll see. She was an adult when she started but she’s much more of an adult now.”
All We Know About “Sister Act 3”
The news about the development of “Sister Act 3” was officially released in December 2020. Walt Disney Studios Motion Picture Production President Sean Bailey shared the happy news during Disney Investor Day of that year, with Tyler Perry signed on to produce alongside Goldberg.
Perry and Goldberg are very excited about the third “Sister Act” project, are you?
