What would have become of the “Doggumentary” rapper Snoop Dogg‘s marriage if Charlie Wilson didn’t step in? We would never know, but Snoop Dogg has a lot of gratitude for the “In It To Win It” singer when it comes to his marriage to wife Shante Broadus.
On Monday, the legendary Charlie Wilson, also known as Uncle Charlie was honored with a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame. Snoop Dogg did the honors of delivering a heartfelt speech about his longtime friend who is a former lead vocalist for “The Gap Band.”
In his speech, the “Tha Doggfather” rapper told the audience that his marriage wouldn’t have been what it is today if not for Charlie. “This man right here means the world to me, not just musically but personally, especially when it comes to me and my wife because there were certain phases in my life where I felt like, ‘I should be by myself, I should do this alone,'” said Snoop Dogg, 52.
Snoop Dogg whose real name is Calvin Cordozar Broadus Jr., has been married to Shante, 52, for 26 years and they share three children.
Snoop Dogg went on to explain that Charlie, 71, made him understand what family means. Charlie “was the only one man enough to pull me to the side and let me know, ‘Don’t blow a good thing. Get back home. You got the greatest woman in the world. You have a family.'”
He added that the “Without You” singer, “showed me and taught me by not just saying it, by showing it. So, I appreciate you for showing me them family values.”
Snoop Dogg — Charlie’s Wife Banned Snoop Dogg From Smoking Near Him
Because, there’s a woman behind every successful man, Snoop Dogg’s speech wouldn’t be complete if he didn’t mention the “There Goes My Baby” singer’s wife Mahin Tat. Charlie and Mahin have been married since 1999, and she’s the reason Charlie has been sober for 29 years.
“Let me tell you about his wife, because she deserves a lot of credit for this. When we first got with Charlie, when I was on Death Row Records, and he was just beginning his rehabilitation, his wife at the time was his counselor. She came in the studio, and she told us, ‘Nobody can smoke if Charlie is in the studio,'” recounted Snoop Dogg.
The “Drop It Like Its Hot” rapper continued, “So, the first day we was like, ‘Man, who is this lady trying to tell us what to do? What you smoking? We doing what we want to do. You can kick rocks with all that.'” He went on to recall how the very next day, “She pulled me to the side, and she talked to me like my mother — and I was always taught by my mother to respect women and respect your elders. She put so much respect on me that we didn’t smoke in the studio around Charlie Wilson when we was working.”
