Sofía Vergara is setting the record straight: Her transformation into Griselda Blanco for the Netflix series Griselda was no simple tweak.
The actress recently appeared on The Kelly Clarkson Show, where the host marveled at how natural her drastic new look looked. But Vergara wasn’t having it.
Explaining The Extensive Process
“This is incredible,” Clarkson exclaimed, admiring the stunning metamorphosis. “I feel like they only changed your nose or something.”
Vergara, visibly shocked, fired back in good humor. “What? Are you crazy, Kelly?” she asked, her voice rising in playful disbelief.
Clarkson struggled to explain herself, insisting that the adjustments looked subtle. But Vergara quickly clarified just how extensive the process was. “No, Kelly. It took hours!” she declared, eliciting laughter from the audience. “It was teeth. It was a wig. It was nose. It was plastic from here to here!”
As the conversation unfolded, Clarkson finally grasped the extent of the transformation. “They did such a good job that it looks seamless,” she admitted. “You literally look like you could actually just be this person in another movie. You could have two careers.”
Reflecting on Goals
Vergara took a moment to reflect on her goal for the role. “I wanted Sofía and Gloria Pritchett to disappear,” she explained, referencing her iconic character from “Modern Family.” “I didn’t want the audience to say, ‘Why does Gloria Pritchett think with that rubber nose that she can trick us into thinking that she’s a dramatic, killer actress?’”
The highly anticipated Netflix series, which premieres on January 25, has already sparked controversy. Blanco’s estate is taking legal action against both Vergara and Netflix, claiming the show uses their family’s image and likeness without permission.
Legal Battle with Blanco’s Estate
A lawsuit filed by Blanco’s adult children alleges that their family’s story was taken without consent or compensation.
According to legal documents obtained by TMZ, the estate argues that Michael Corleone Blanco, Griselda’s son, had been working for years to develop his mother’s life story into a book or production. He asserts that discussions about the project date back to 2009, with efforts continuing until 2022.
Michael alleges that Netflix was pitched the concept but initially declined to use any of the materials from his interviews.
However, he now claims that many of his personal anecdotes have been included in the final show without his knowledge or compensation. He and his siblings contend that their likenesses were used in the series without consent, which they argue violates their rights.
Griselda Blanco’s Legacy
In a statement to DailyMail.com, Michael expressed frustration over being excluded from the project. Calling it a “slap in the face,” he asserted that such a move wouldn’t have been possible if his mother were still alive.
Known as the “Cocaine Godmother,” Griselda Blanco was a notorious Colombian drug lord linked to trafficking and multiple homicides. Arrested in 1985, she spent nearly two decades behind bars before being deported to Colombia in 2004. In 2012, she was assassinated outside a butcher shop in Medellín at the age of 69.
Despite the legal battle surrounding the show, “Griselda” remains one of Netflix’s most highly anticipated releases. And if Sofía Vergara’s striking transformation is any indication, the series is set to be a gripping portrayal of one of the most feared women in cartel history.
