Suzanne Somers Husband Alan Hamel Pens This Love Poem Just Before Her Death

Love reveals itself in many ways. And for the late Suzanne Somers, a poem from her husband Alan Hamel told her everything she needed to know about his affection for her.

But although Alan planned it for her birthday, he decided to give it to Suzanne the night before. And so she read it the day before she died. Read Hamel’s moving final words to Somers below.

Suzanne Somers – Reads Husband’s Poem Before Death

Alan Hamel penned a loving poem to Suzanne Somers to celebrate her birthday. And the actress’ publicist R. Couri Hay told People that Hamel, 87, “gave it to her a day early.” And so the night before her death, Suzanne “read the poem.”

Somers then headed off to bed. And Hay revealed that she “later died peacefully in her sleep.” To honor their 46-year-old marriage, Hamel had written about what Suzanne’s love meant to him and how he returned it.

But sadly, Somers passed away just one day before her 77th birthday. And her publicist revealed, “Suzanne Somers passed away peacefully at home in the early morning hours of October 15th. She survived an aggressive form of breast cancer for over 23 years.”

Suzanne Somers’ – Family Will Honor Her In November

Known for Step By Step and Three’s Company, Suzanne died “surrounded by her loving husband Alan, her son Bruce, and her immediate family,” according to her publicist. “Her family was gathered to celebrate her 77th birthday on October 16th. Instead, they will celebrate her extraordinary life, and want to thank her millions of fans and followers who loved her dearly.” The family will hold a private burial this week, with a memorial to honor her in November.

But for Suzanne’s husband Alan Hamel, everything he needed to say came in that poem that he gave her the night before her death. And written in all capital letters, Hamel shared, “LOVE I USE IT EVERY DAY, SOMETIMES SEVERAL TIMES A DAY. I USE IT AT THE END OF EMAILS TO MY LOVING FAMILY,… IN EMAILS TO CLOSE FRIENDS,… WHEN I’M LEAVING THE HOUSE.”

And he added, “THERE’S LOVE, THEN LOVE YOU AND I LOVE YOU!! THEREIN LIES SOME OF THE DIFFERENT WAYS WE USE LOVE. SOMETIMES I FEEL OBLIGED TO USE LOVE, RESPONDING TO SOMEONE WHO SIGNED LOVE IN THEIR EMAIL, WHEN I’M UNCOMFORTABLE USING LOVE BUT I USE IT ANYWAY.”

Alan Hamel – Shares His Love For Suzanne Somers

Hamel continued to share that he used the word love to refer to everything from a wonderful feast to a Netflix show. And he reflected that he used the term for his home, his cat Gloria, and everything that he cares for in his daily live.

“I COULD GO ON AD INFINITUM,” added Alan. “BUT YOU GET IT. WHAT BRAND OF LOVE DO I FEEL FOR MY WIFE SUZANNE? CAN I FIND IT IN ANY OF THE ABOVE? A RESOUNDING NO!!!! THERE IS NO VERSION OF THE WORD THAT IS APPLICABLE TO SUZANNE AND I EVEN USE THE WORD APPLICABLE ADVISEDLY.”

Hamel then reflected that even the term “unconditional love” doesn’t fully cover his feelings for the actress. And he expressed his heartfelt love for Suzanne after 55 years as a couple, with 46 married. But he shared that he couldn’t find the words for how much he loved his wife.

“I’LL TAKE A BULLET FOR YOU DOESN’T DO IT. I WEEP WHEN I THINK ABOUT MY FEELINGS FOR YOU. FEELINGS,” he confessed. And Hamel added, “THAT’S GETTING CLOSE, BUT NOT ALL THE WAY. I’M BACK TO FEELINGS.”

But Hamel then revealed that he could find “no words, actions, promises, or declarations” to show his emotions. And he added, “EVEN THE GREEN SHADED SCHOLARS OF THE OXFORD UNIVERSITY PRESS HAVE SPENT 150 YEARS AND STILL HAVE FAILED TO COME UP WITH THAT ONE WORD. SO I WILL CALL IT, ‘US’, UNIQUELY, MAGICALLY, INDESCRIBABLY WONDERFUL ‘US’.”
