A new “Cliffhanger” reboot is in the works, with a working script written by Mark Bianculli (“Hunters”). Sylvester Stallone will be getting right back into the high-stakes action movie “Cliffhanger” in an upcoming reboot directed by Ric Roman Waugh.
You may know Waugh for his work on the action movies, “Angel Has Fallen” and “Greenland.”
Even though it’s been over thirty years since the original, and of course Stallone still won’t be the muscular hunk he was in 1993, it’s been confirmed that he will be returning as the mountain climber and rescue ranger, Gabe Walker.
The script will be written by Mark Bianculli, whose previous works include being a writer-consulting producer on the Amazon series “Hunter.”
What We Know About Sylvester Stallone’s Reboot Of 1993 Action Thriller “Cliffhanger”
The production team include Neal H. Moritz’s Original Film, best known for “The Fast and the Furious franchise,” Rocket Science, as well Stallone and Braden Aftergood’s Balboa Productions. Executive producers include Waugh, Ana Lily Amirpour, Chance Wright, Gianluca Chakra and Hisham Alghanim.
The original movie was a hit immediately after release, which is a good thing because the lead company behind the productions was almost bankrupt by the time it was over and they reportedly couldn’t afford to pay the crew twice.
“Growing up with the biggest action films of the ’80s and ’90s, working on many of them myself, Cliffhanger was by far one of my favorite spectacles,” said Waugh in a statement. “To be at the helm of the next chapter, scaling the Italian Alps with the legend himself, Sylvester Stallone, is a dream come true. It’s going to be a great challenge and blast taking this franchise to new heights, a responsibility I don’t take lightly.”
