Taylor Swift To Make Feature Film Directing Debut For Searchlight Pictures

Searchlight Pictures announced on Friday, Oct. 9, that the “Bad Blood” singer Taylor Swift will be making a feature film directing debut with them.

Taylor Swift, 32, is a singer, songwriter, and director. She has directed a short film that was based off of her 2012 song “All Too Well.” Taylor Swift didn’t just direct the film, she also wrote it. The short film’s title is “All Too Well: A Short Film”

Details of the upcoming feature film have not been released yet, but in her conversation with TIFF, Swift mentioned some women directors like Nora Ephron, Chloe Zhao, and Greta Gerwig as her inspiration.

Although Swift has directed movies like “The Man,” and “All Too Well: A Short Film,” it’s her first time directing a feature-length film.

“All Too Well: A Short Film” is a 14-minute film about a young girl who met and fell in love with her lover but got heartbroken along the way. Swift made a cameo appearance in the film. The film also featured Dylan O’Brien and Sadie Sink when they made up. There were flashbacks from Sink’s memory of the good ol’ days.

The short film “All Too Well: A Short Film” was recently screened at the 2022 Tribeca Film Festival and Toronto International Film Festival. Swift is the first and only female artist to win album of the year on three different occasions, she is also an 11-time Grammy winner.

Recently, the “Blank Space” singer became the only solo artist ever to be honored with two best direction awards at the MTV VMAs for directing “All Too Well: The Short Film” and “The Man.”

Aside from singing, writing songs, and directing movies, Taylor Swift has appeared in some movies too. Movies like, “Valentine’s Day,” and “Cats.”

The feature film Swift will be directing is an original script written by her. A joint statement released by Searchlight presidents David Greenbaum and Matthew Greenfield reads;

“Taylor is a once in a generation artist and storyteller. It is a genuine joy and privilege to collaborate with her as she embarks on this exciting and new creative journey.”
