A federal judge has expressed interest in letting Gina Carano‘s case go to discovery despite Disney’s fight to have it tossed. The actor brought the lawsuit against Disney and LucasFilm after they fired her for her controversial stance.
Elon Musk – Backs Gina Carano’s Court Case In Move To Support Free Speech On X And All Platforms
One of the main reasons Elon Musk bought Twitter, now X, is because of his desire to have a platform that promotes free speech. This desire has seen him back ‘The Mandalorian’ star in her battle against Disney and LucasFilm for firing her because of her controversial posts on social media.
Prior to her firing, Carano had used her platform to compare being a Republican in our times to the sufferings of the Jewish people during the Nazi era.
She wrote that “most people today don’t realize that to get to the point where Nazi soldiers could easily round up thousands of Jews, the government first made their own neighbors hate them simply for being Jews.” The post continued, “How is that any different from hating someone for their political views?”
Disney accused her of sharing “abhorrent and unacceptable” views that are “denigrating people based on their cultural & religious identities” and fired her.
Prior to her firing in 2021, the MMA fighter turned actress had starred in the ‘Star Wars’ show for two seasons. At the time of her firing from the show, her agency UTA also dropped her.
“The truth is I was being hunted down from everything I posted to every post I liked because I was not in line with the acceptable narrative of the time,” she wrote on Twitter/X.
She insisted that she didn’t mean for any words to hurt anyone, but only just employed “the occasional comedy to keep the mood light in dark times.”
Gina Carano – Accuses Disney Of Harassing Her And Giving Male Co-stars Free Passes
In a new lawsuit, Carano is claiming that she was “harassed and defamed” and is seeking $75,000 in damages and a court order that would reinstate her on the hit series.
In the filing, she further noted that her male co-stars were given a pass even though they also posted derogatory statements about Republicans.
In Disney’s countersuit, the company detailed arranging a meeting with a representative from the LGBTQ+ group Glaad after she was called out for her anti-trans behavior online, but she refused to honor the invitation.
Disney then arranged for her to meet with a group of Disney employees that were part of the LGBTQ+ group, which she also refused. Following this, Disney decided to fire her.
