Every year, Swifties can’t help but feel that ‘this might be the year Taylor Swift will headline Super Bowl.’ But each year, other stars but Taylor takes the stage and gives a hell of a performance at the Super Bowl Halftime Show.
I mean, stars like Bruno Mars, Katy Perry, Lenny Kravitz, Lady Gaga, Shakira, Jennifer Lopez, Bad Bunny, Beyonce, etc.
Later year 2023, at Super Bowl LVII, Rihanna, gave a hell of a performance that’s still talked about, and this year’s Super Bowl LVIII, Usher broke the Internet with his performance with special guests Alicia Keys, Jermaine Dupri, H.E.R., will.i.am, Lil Jon, and Ludacris.
Each year’s show always surpasses the previous year and it’s all because of the artists involved. So imagine if the 14-time Grammy Award Winner takes that stage for just 15 minutes.
There’s no denying that once word gets out that the “22” hitmaker will be headlining Super Bowl, the whole arena will not only be sold out, but it will be a performance that will be talked about for generations to come (lol, the generation part is a stretch but you get the point right?).
Anyway, Fear not dear Swifties for finally, we’ve gotten to the root of why Taylor Swift has yet to headline Super Bowl.
Taylor Swift — Did Taylor Turn Down The Offers?
It’s easy to think that the “Blank Space” singer might have been turning down offers to perform at the show but the thing is, in the year 2013, when Taylor’s career was at its peak, she signed with Coca-Cola to be the face of Diet Coke.
That same year, Coca-Cola’s rival Pepsi resumed sponsorship of Super Bowl halftime. Although Taylor’s contract with Coca-Cola ended in 2018, Pepsi kept sponsoring Super Bowl until 2022.
When Apple Music took over the sponsorship of Super Bowl halftime they invited Taylor to perform at Super Bowl LVII but the “Bad Blood” singer turned down the offer with valid reason.
Her reason is because she is still in the process of re-recording her first six albums which she made for Big Machine Records after she lost the rights to the original versions in a dispute with producer Scooter Braun.
As for this year, Taylor’s schedule is fully booked up to December 2024 with her Eras Tour which began last April. Amid all these, fans of the 34-year-old can’t help but imagine a Super Bowl headlined by the “Cruel Summer” singer.
One fan said, “She would have sold out the Super Bowl. All of a sudden it gets announced that Taylor Swift is doing the halftime show. You don’t think b**ches would be running, sprinting, giving limbs to see an Eras Tour ten-minute version?” The same person went on to say, “Imagine the reaction that would have been if she did the halftime show…and everyone in the stadium was in like Eras Tour outfits like no one was dressed up for the game.”
