So uh…there’ll be no farewell tour or hanging in the hat, or whatever you or anyone else calls retirement, for Rod Stewart. After decades of making music, you’d think the guy would be looking forward to retirement, but no, he and his music are a life package.
Rod Stewart – On What’s Next For Him After Six Decades Of Making Music
Stewart may be pivoting away from rock-‘n’-roll, but that doesn’t mean he’s abandoning the genre entirely. The singer-songwriter announced earlier this month that he would be making a swing album, and no, he’s not thinking of retirement or even of leaving his old songs behind. If he wrote ’em and sang ’em, he’s sure not going to not keep performing them (ignore the two nots in the sentence, it’s weird, I know!)
“I’d like to clear up any confusion that I may have caused with my dear fans and the media,” the 78-year-old “Maggie May” singer wrote on Instagram on Wednesday, adding that he intends to keep playing music for as long as he lives. “I shall never retire! I was put on this earth to be a singer and will keep doing so for as long as the good Lord lets me.”
He also touched on his upcoming summer tour, saying that he’ll “be playing the hits as advertised for the U.K., U.S., South America and Vegas and into 2024 but no retirement as such.”
Rod Stewart – On Why He Wants To Make A Swing Album
In a BBC Breakfast interview, Stewart revealed that he’s working on a swing album and leaving behind the genre he’s been known for for decades.
“Everything has to come to an end sooner or later,” Stewart, who is making the album with Jool’s Holland, added.
When can fans hope to receive this “big band/swing” album from Stewart? Right after he’s done touring. In fact according to the star, “It’s something I’m very eager to share with you.”
