At 60, Mission Impossible superstar Tom Cruise longs for love. But in the wake of seeing his six-year marriage to Katie Holmes, 44, collapse in 2012, the actor can’t seem to find lasting romance. And “the truth is his reputation just isn’t great,” claimed one source via Radar.

However, the tale of Cruise’s last girlfriend, Hayley Atwell, 40, shows why the actor has become known as a bad romantic risk. Hayley initially broke up with Tom in 2020. But then after reuniting two years later, she split from Cruise again. And insiders claim that those breakups stem from the Scientologist’s “bossy egomaniac” ways.

But Tom “really worked hard to hang on to Hayley,” said one source. However, he behaved in such “controlling ways” that it “got too much for her. And she ended it. Women find him way too intense,” summed up the insider. “And he’s turned into Hollywood’s least eligible bachelor.”

However, Cruise also faces challenges because of his commitment to the Church of Scientology, according to sources. “The whole Scientology thing is a turnoff for most women,” claimed one insider. “And he can’t exactly downplay it. He’s very committed to it.”

But after failed marriages to Katie Holmes, Nicole Kidman, 55, and Mimi Rogers, 67, Cruise won’t give up on his quest for love. And he reportedly doesn’t see his errors in relationships. “To him, any partner is an extension of him — and his brand — so he’s known to be very micromanaging,” noted the source. And Cruise even chooses “what clothes they can wear when they’re out with him.”

As a result, sources claim that Cruise has become known for making girlfriends feel more like employees. Because of his workaholic tendencies, the actor tends to give orders rather than make requests. And “it’s really off-putting. A lot of women have walked away after a few dates,” noted the insider.

However, Tom also seems obsessed with himself, claimed the source. And Cruise doesn’t like to share the spotlight. Because he “needs to be the star in any relationship,” his girlfriends should prepare for staying in the background. But Tom’s reputation for behaving in “extreme” ways makes women feel “very hesitant to date him,” added the insider.
