Before the writer’s strike started shutting down major productions and TV shows, there was COVID: a pandemic that shut down many industries across the world for long months.
Even now, three years later, the effects of its presence is still felt. For one, moviegoers seem more reluctant to go to the theaters (some of us now wait for the digital release) and it’s affecting movies with large production budget.
However, as “Mission: Impossible 7” debuts around the globe, Tom Cruise has one dream: for “Mission Impossible: Dead Reckoning Part One” and “all of the films to perform well.”
We’ve already seen him make a move to ensure his competitors hit it big when he rallied his fans to go see “Oppenheimer” and “Barbie.” He followed this call by announcing he plans to see both movies himself. What would movies do without Tom Cruise?
Tom Cruise Calls “Mission: Impossible 7” Premiere “Very, Very Special”
On Monday, July 10, “Mission: Impossible: Dead Reckoning Part One” premiered to a large number of eager fans and journalists that weren’t social distancing or wearing face masks. This is far from the reality of the world when the seventh installment of the hit franchise started filming.
After facing multiple setbacks prior to the COVID, the production team was ready to get the show on the road by the time the pandemic rolled in. This did not work out as smoothly as anyone would have hoped, as the production shut down five times, with Cruise and writer-director Christopher McQuarrie ultimately contracting the disease.
You can guess that it’ll feel like a big achievement to finally walk the red carpet of the movie’s premiere and know that all of the hard work paid off.
“We talked about it. We dreamed about it. It’s very, very special,” Cruise told the Hollywood Reporter. “On Top Gun: Maverick, they kept pushing the movie and pushing the movie, and for [McQuarrie] and I, this is such an ambitious movie. And it was a very challenging film to produce, and then everything happened, and it was even more challenging. So to have this response…is very, very special.”
Tom Cruise Reveals What He Thinks Of Predictions That Say “Mission: Impossible 7” Will Set Box Office Records
“Mission: Impossible 7” is arriving on the heels of a number of summer releases that failed to capture the heart of moviegoers – “Indiana Jones” barely scraped by.
Even with all the mediocre success of the movies that came before it, the Tom Cruise-led project is expected to bring in $65 million or more in North America alone.
While the prediction is sure to make a few people associated with the project nervous, Cruise isn’t really stressing about the ticket sells.
“I’m just going to make the best films that I can make, and I want them all to perform well, and I want all of the other films to perform well,” he said. “I think about a movie in terms of the quality and longevity, I invest everything in it. So, really, my job is just to try to make the best film I possibly can to entertain the audience for that particular genre.”
