Dashing through the sky, from a plane high up in the air… (Okay, I’m done with trying to keep up with the Jingle Bells tune). Tom Cruise just made the season a little more jolly by performing a stunt midair to wish fans a very merry Christmas.
He also thanked all those who supported his “Top Gun: Maverick” movie, which is quite a lot of people.
Tom Cruise – Thanks Fans For A Great Year And Wishes Them Happy Holidays
On Sunday, the star shared a clip of himself via Twitter from the set of “Mission Impossible: Dead Reckoning” in South Africa. The video, which saw him jump out of a plane, was made for his fans ahead of the holiday season.
“Hey everyone,” Cruise, 60, began the video. “Here we are over stunning South Africa, where we’re filming Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning parts one and two. And I didn’t want the year to end without thanking you all for coming out to the theaters and thank you for supporting Top Gun: Maverick.”
He was dutifully reminded by the “Dead Reckoning” director Christopher McQuarrie, who was also “Top Gun: Maverick’s” screenwriter, that the stunt was timed and he had to hurry up. “Listen, we really gotta roll, we gotta get the shot,” McQuarrie, 54, said.
“Where was I?” he asked while free-falling. “Oh yeah. Thank you for supporting Top Gun: Maverick, and thank you for allowing us to entertain you. It truly is the honor of a lifetime.”
“I’m running out of altitude, so I have to get back to work. We have to get this shot. You have a very safe and happy holiday, we’ll see you at the movies,” Cruise continued before he started to descend.
Cruise has been known for performing his own stunts, whether it’s falling from a mountain or jumping off a plane.
Tom Cruise – Announces He’s Filming the Next Installment Of His Hit Franchise “Mission Impossible”
The first footage of Tom Cruise jumping off a biplane to perform a stunt for the upcoming “Mission Impossible” movie surfaced in September. The World War II-era biplane was flying over South Africa’s Blyde River Canyon when Cruise was told to jump as they were running out of fuel.
“Hi everyone! Wish I could be there with you — I’m sorry for all the extra noise,” Cruise said in the video, which was shown at CinemaCon in April. “As you can see, we are filming the latest installment of Mission: Impossible, and right now we are over gorgeous Blyde Canyon in stunning South Africa.”
After Cruise was alerted to the fuel crisis, he wrapped up his speech and got into action.
“Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning” Part 1 is set to premiere in July 2023.
