Tom Cruise To Go To Space Just To Film A Movie SceneExactly what limit does Tom Cruise want to push his stunts? Sometime this year we’ve seen the guy ride a biplane and heard that he actually jumped off a cliff during the filming of Mission Impossible 7 – no stunt doubles required – and now he wants to, what, go to space and perform a spacewalk for a movie?

I really haven’t seen it all with Tom Cruise, have I?

Universal Studios Executive Reveals Plans To Send Tom Cruise To Space

Okay, Tom Cruise is looking forward to making history as “the first civilian to do a spacewalk” outside the International Space Station for his next movie with director Doug Liman.

During an interview with BBC News, Universal Studios executive Donna Langley shared that they’re planning to send Cruise, 60, to film an epic scene in space for an untitled project.

“I think Tom Cruise is taking us to space. He’s taking the world to space,” Langley said. “That’s the plan. We have a great project in development with Tom that does contemplate him doing just that, taking a rocket up to the Space Station and shooting and hopefully being the first civilian to do a space walk outside of the Space Station.”

Tom Cruise Pitched The “Go To Space To Save The Day” Project Over A Zoom Call With Langley

The still-untitled project, which Cruise reportedly pitched to Langley over a Zoom call during the pandemic, has a working budget of $200 million.

“During the pandemic he asked for a Zoom call with us and got onto the call and said, ‘Guys, I’ve got this great project and here it is,’ ” Langley said. “The majority of the story actually takes place on Earth and then the character needs to go up to space to save the day.”

This would make the project the very first narrative feature film shot in space, per a report by Variety.

This is not the first time that Cruise and Liman have worked together on a project, having worked on such movies as 2014’s “Edge of Tomorrow” and 2017’s “American Made”. Liman’s association with the project was first announced in 2020.

At the moment, the details about the movie are still hush hush, though it’s been discovered that the pair will be working with both NASA and Elon Musk’s SpaceX on the project.

Cruise will be playing “a down-on-his-luck guy who finds himself in the position of being the only person who could save Earth.”
