Before he could blink the new kid arrived and took over the entire school. The star of “Mission Impossible” Tom Cruise is not happy with the results of the seventh installment of the film franchise and it has everything to do with the arrival of Barbie.

Ever since the first “Mission Impossible” dropped, the film’s box office results have always been jaw-dropping, from its first installment down to its sixth installment “Mission: Impossible – Fallout.”

However, this latest installment “Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning Part One” did not meet up with the expectation.

The movie which was released on June 19, 2023, in Rome, and on July 12, 2023, in the United States, did very well on its first and second day but its box office performance dropped very well the following week after “Oppenheimer” and “Barbie.”

“Barbie” which was released a week after M:I 8, is currently the second-highest-grossing film of 2023 with over $1 billion box office result, while “Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning Part One” is the tenth-highest-grossing film of 2023 with a total of $541 million box office result.

With the film being the costliest film of all time, expectations of it grossing at least $900 million at the box office are in order however it’s not the case at all. It barely made over $500 million and Tom is disappointed and ‘sour’ about the outcome.

An insider close to the “Top Gun Maverick” actor told “The Sun” that it has left the actor with “a bit of a sour taste in some mouths.”

According to the source, “Tom’s Mission: Impossible seven was hard-earned and overcame so many hurdles to make it into the cinema. But there is a feeling among the crew that they fought hell and high water to get it out only for Barbie to come along and totally overshadow it.

It’s a really hard time in Hollywood right now so no one is knocking Barbie’s wins, it’s just left a bit of a sour taste in some mouths.”

Variety reported that given the film’s massive budget, it would “likely not turn a profit” in its theatrical run. There was a later estimate that the film would lose the studio $100 million if it did not reach a $600 million worldwide gross.
