Recently, Great American Family actress Candace Cameron Bure was interviewed by the Wall Street Journal. In that interview, the Full House alum slammed Hallmark for their “inclusive” policy. In fact, she explained why she is so happy to have made to move to Great American Family, where “traditional marriage” is the order of the day. Many celebrities responded to Bure’s statements, including Hallmark star Jonathan Bennett.

However, it turns out Bure has some actors in her corner, including Trevor Donovan, who recently weighed in on the controversy. The former 90210 star has signed a deal to star in the Christian faith-based network’s movies and addressed Bure’s controversial comments.

Just over a week ago, the Wall Street Journal interview was published, where Bure, 46, said she intends to “keep traditional marriage at the core” of her partnership with Great American Family.

Last year, Trevor Donovan, 44, signed an overall deal with Great American Media to star in a number of series and movies. Speaking to Variety, Donovan, 44, addressed Bure’s remarks, while explaining how he is approaching his projects with the network. He said:

I feel people should be and believe what they want, as long as they are kind and accepting of others. For those of you who have followed me since 90210, you know my heart and character. No matter who you love, no matter what your race or religion is, you matter.

The Dancing With the Stars celebrity continued, saying, “Through mutual respect and acceptance, coexistence is possible. Based on the few months I have known Candace, I have found her to be kind, and passionate about her faith.”

Meanwhile, Bure responded to the negative response she received about her WSJ interview. Speaking to People, she said,

All of you who know me, know beyond question that I have great love and affection for all people. It absolutely breaks my heart that anyone would ever think I intentionally would want to offend and hurt anyone.

The former Hallmark star explained that she is a “devoted Christian” which means she believes that every human being “bears the image of God.” Bure added that because of that, she is called to love all people, which she does. The Great American Family star added:

My heart yearns to build bridges and bring people one step closer to God, to love others well, and to simply be a reflection of God’s huge love for all of us.

According to the actress, she had also said in the WSJ interview that “people of all ethnicities and identities have and will continue to contribute to the network in great ways both in front of and behind the camera.”

Bure claims she said this is something she will “encourage and fully support.” However, she said that part of the interview didn’t make it to the final story.

Meanwhile, Hallmark actor Jonathan Bennett also spoke with People about Hallmark’s move toward more inclusive storytelling, saying:

What I love so much about Hallmark Channel is the care they take in the quality of telling the story, especially when it involves LGBTQ+ people, it’s handled with so much respect.

The Mean Girls actor said there had been unwavering support from the network on “telling the story and wanting to tell it and letting us do it how we want.”’?
