US Wants Brittney Griner & Paul Whelan Freed, Makes Russia An Offer!

US Wants Brittney Griner & Paul Whelan Freed, Makes Russia An Offer! The attempt to bring back the WNBA star, Brittney Griner that’s been held in Russian prison is still ongoing. Four months ago, Britney Griner was arrested for having in her possession two vape cartridges containing hashish oil which is banned in the Russian country. Early this month, on Thursday, July 7, Brittney plead guilty to the charges and on Wednesday, July 27, exactly three weeks after pleading guilty, she testified.

On Monday, July 4th, Brittney wrote a letter to the U.S. President Joe Biden asking for his help to get her out of the Russian prison. In her touchy letter which was written on the day set as the independence day of the United States of America, Brittney said she is afraid she might not be able to return to her country anymore and begs the president to do his best in ensuring that she returns home. The President responded to Brittney saying he will do his best to ensure she’s released back to them.

Brittney Griner — Proposal To Be Realised With Paul Whelan

On Wednesday, July 27, the United States Secretary of State Anthony Blinken said in a statement that the U.S. government has made a ‘substantial proposal’ to the Russian government for the release of not just Brittney Griner but also Paul Whelan who, just like Brittney was wrongly detained by the Russians.

Blinken said. “I plan to raise an issue that’s a top priority for us: the release of Americans Paul Whelan and Brittney Griner, who have been wrongfully detained and must be allowed to come home. We put a substantial proposal on the table weeks ago to facilitate their release. Our governments have communicated repeatedly and directly on that proposal.”

In Paul’s case, Paul was visiting Russian for a friend’s wedding when he was arrested in 2018, he was sentenced to 20 years in prison, and if Brittney was convicted, she could face up to 10 years in prison. When Brittney was first arrested, her family kept the case quiet hoping to resolve it quietly but unfortunately, they haven’t gone anywhere near resolving it so, Brittney’s wife Cherelle Grinner couldn’t stay quiet anymore so she spoke up and the President assured her that he’s doing everything to bring Britteny back.

Due to how Brittney’s case garnered lots of concern not just from her fellow WNBA players but the President also got involved, the family of Paul Whelan spoke up too expressing their hurt that the President is trying to bring Brittney home and nothing is being said about Paul who has been held by the Russians since 2018 so, the President also reached out to the family of Paul Whelan and assured them also that they will do their best to also bring back Paul.

Brittney Griner’s – Testimony About What Happened

Brittney also testified in court that same Wednesday, July 27 which is three weeks after pleading guilty to the charges of bringing in contraband drugs into the country. Brittney said she brought it in accidentally and that it wasn’t her aim to bring illegal drugs into the country.

In Brittney’s testimony, she explained that she was at the airport going through passport control when out of the blues a staff arrived with a dog and asked that she open her bag which she did, the dog sniffed out the drugs and before she knew what was going on, her passport was taken away from her. Brittney recalled signing something to use Google translation but there was a lady interpreter present but the lady didn’t tell her what was going on when she asked.

Brittney said she immediately called her lawyer before her phone was confiscated from her, she felt like she was being held against her will and that her lawyers were denied access to her till the following day.

How can they continue to say that she is wrongfully detained after she admitted to breaking a law of their country? That’s not considered to be wrongfully detained. It’s called being arrested for committing a crime against their laws that are in place.
