Not everyone grew up in the spotlight, some had to scratch and claw their way up amid being told they’re not good enough or that they will never make it. This is exactly the story of our “Viva Forever” singer Victoria Beckham before she made a name for herself.

In a recent interview with “Allure” published on December 14, the “Spice Girls” alum shared that growing up wasn’t easy for her as she was constantly bullied by her peers both physically and mentally, and constantly told that she was not good enough no matter how hard she worked.

“I’ve never really told my story about being the underdog at school. I was bullied — a lot,'” said Victoria while adding, “I never fitted in socially. And when anybody is different, kids can be really mean. I remember being mentally bullied, physically bullied, literally pushed around.” She went on to share that her painful experience happened when she was around age 11 and 12.

She continued, “When I was dancing and singing, I had to work really hard to be good, but was never good enough. I was an alright dancer. I was an alright singer. People were very quick to say, ‘You can’t sing.’ I can joke about it better than anybody. I’ll take the mickey out of myself. I mean, obviously, I could sing a little. But I always had to work very hard just to be okay at anything.”

Having always been underestimated, fueled her to do more and never relent, and that hard work resulted in the famous girl group “Spice Girls” She admitted that “that’s why the Spice Girls worked: Individually we were underdogs, but collectively we worked.

She also said that her experience helped mold her life as a celebrity, “It gave me a tough skin for what was to come next. There were times I felt too self-conscious to sit on the beach with my children because of the attention and the paparazzi.”

Victoria Beckham — Victoria Used Her Experience To Teach Her Children

Because she experienced firsthand what it feels like to be bullied, the 49-year-old revealed that she made sure to inculcate into her children to be kind to others. “I have always said to [my daughter] Harper, ‘If you see a little girl sitting on her own in the playground, that was your mum. Go up and talk to that little girl,'” said Victoria to Allure.

She continued, “My entire school life was a misery, an absolute misery. Kids can be bloody horrible. I would never, ever allow my children to treat anybody like that. I know everybody thinks their kids are angels, but my kids are genuinely very kind. That’s the most important thing, isn’t it?”
