Vivian Olyphant recently appeared alongside her famous dad in the revival of “Justified,” which originally concluded in 2015.
The two-episode premiere saw the 20-year-old star as Willa Givens, the daughter of Timothy Olyphant’s charming U.S. Marshal, Raylan Givens. You may think she doesn’t deserve it, but she really does have some hands-on knowledge that makes her great for the role.
However, it was shocking to learn that she hasn’t actually watched her father’s performance in the hit series. Also, the star did not shy away from addressing the Nepo baby conversation that has been haunting her since the casting news was revealed.
Vivian Olyphant Says It’s Not Unusual For A Child To Be Interested In Their Parents’ Jobs
For Vivian, acting isn’t something she just woke up one day and wanted to try, and she’s not relying on her father’s fame to pave a way for her. She knows that if she wants to really hit it big, like her father did, she would have to work hard. This has motivated her to enrol at the William Esper Studio in New York.
In a recent interview with The Hollywood Reporter, the star discussed her passion for acting, saying, “I was always interested in it when I was younger, just from visiting my dad on his sets and watching him having fun, basically.
I also loved meeting everybody on set. So I knew that was the place where I wanted to be, and I would also put on shows for my family. I would write plays. Performing was always something I was interested in.”
She also does a great job of ignoring all the naysayers who think that everything she gets is as a result of her father’s fame. “Yeah, I knew about the “nepo baby” and that world, but it’s a very normal thing for a child to be interested in something that their parents are doing, especially if it’s something as fun as acting. Having a parent that acts and knows the job and is supportive of it just makes it a lot better. So I knew about all that, but I’m just not paying attention to those comments.”
Vivian Olyphant Says She’s Never Watched “Justified” Prior to Auditioning
While Olyphant didn’t exactly go into her audition blind, she did admit that she hasn’t seen the series before. When her parents told her about how they were casting for the role of Willa, she decided to do a little research and read the sides, and immediately got so hooked on the character she asked her parents whether she can audition.
“I’ve never seen Justified before, but the only reason is because I’ve never seen anything that my dad is in. I see him all the time, and in my free time, I don’t know that watching him is something I’d be interested in doing. But I knew what the show is about, and I visited the set growing up, so I knew the creatives on the team, too.”
