Want A Piece Of John Lennon Fury? It’s Up For Sale For $33,000

Want A Piece Of John Lennon Fury? It's Up For Sale For $33,000The Beatles had epic battles, just as they had epic hits, and one of those angry letters from one angry member to another is on sale. I guess we’ll know who the Beatles’ biggest fan is?

A Heated Letter John Lennon Wrote To Paul McCartney Has Now Been Auctioned

The angry letter from Lennon to McCartney is expected to fetch $40,000 at the auction. It could be more if the Beatles effect takes root.

The highest bidder at the auction, hosted by GottaHaveRockandRoll.com, will become the new owner of Lennon’s “scathing reply to Paul McCartney’s published interview in the Nov. 20, 1971 issue of Melody Maker, where Paul shared his thoughts on John and Yoko [Ono], the dissolution of the Beatles’ business partnership and more.”

“John was so furious when he read the interview that he sent this three-page, signed and hand-annotated letter, addressed to Paul, to Melody Maker, for publication, asking them in his own handwriting for equal time,” the listing described, noting that the typewritten letter was originally published in the Dec. 4, 1971 issue of Melody Maker.

The letter – which Lennon addressed to the “wee McCartneys”, that is, Paul, 80, and his first wife Linda McCartney – Lennon touched on many points, including the financials surrounding Apple Records, about a business-related phone conversation they had and an accusation that McCartney went “behind [Lennon’s] back” to buy Northern Songs shares.

Lennon concluded by assuring the McCartneys that he had “no hard feelings,” that they “basically want the same [things]” and he was open to meeting up. But in a postscript, he added, “The bit that really puzzled us was asking to meet WITHOUT LINDA AND YOKO. I know you’re camp! But let’s not go too far! I thought you’d have understood BY NOW that I’m JOHNANDYOKO.”

The auction for the letter will end 9 pm ET on Aug 19, with the highest bid currently set at $33,000.

John Lennon and Paul McCartney had a difficult relationship from when the Beatles was formed in 1960 right down to Lennon’s death in 1980.
