For years, Wendy Williams was the queen of daytime gossip, delivering the latest celebrity news with her signature no-holds-barred style. But after a shocking collapse on live TV, her life took a drastic turn.

Now, after being diagnosed with frontotemporal dementia and placed under guardianship, Williams is fighting back—this time to regain control of her legal representation.

Wendy Williams Challenges Her Guardianship

Williams has been under a strict conservatorship since 2022, a year before her devastating diagnosis of primary progressive aphasia and dementia.

Sabrina Morrissey, her court-appointed guardian, has had full control over her finances and well-being. However, Williams has made it clear that she no longer trusts the system that has been managing her life.

Currently, she is represented by guardianship attorney Sadatu Salami, but she is pushing to add another lawyer to her case. Before this can happen, a Lincoln hearing will determine if Williams is mentally capable of making such a decision.

An insider explained, “There will be a Lincoln hearing to determine if Wendy is mentally capable of hiring her own attorney.” If she is found competent, the judge will still need to approve her choice, which could prove to be another hurdle in her fight for independence.

Previously, Williams had enlisted attorney Linda Redlisky, but she fired her after discovering that the necessary paperwork to terminate her guardianship had never been filed.

Reports also indicated that she had considered hiring high-profile attorney Joe Tacopina, known for representing public figures like Michael Jackson and Meek Mill, but she ultimately decided to look elsewhere.

Allegations of Neglect and Financial Control

One of the most concerning aspects of Williams’ conservatorship has been the strict control over her finances. While visiting her father in Miami for his birthday, Williams reportedly discovered that her credit card had been declined.

“During her trip to see her father in Miami last month for his birthday, the credit card given to her by Sabrina was declined, and someone else had to pay for her purchases,” an insider revealed.

Fans have since called this an example of elder abuse and have demanded that Williams be freed from her guardianship.

Adding to her frustrations, Williams has spoken out against her living conditions, referring to her facility as a “luxury prison.” Reports state that she was confined to the memory unit and was unable to leave her floor without an escort.

Feeling trapped, Williams eventually pleaded for help and was admitted to the hospital. During her stay, her attorney filed an emergency petition to have her transferred to a less restrictive facility.

The controversy surrounding Williams’ guardianship has sparked outcry from fans and advocates against conservatorship abuse.
