Since the divorce news arrived in August, fans have taken it as a big go-ahead to dump on Lopez, but you know what? Affleck still thinks she’s “spectacular” even amid the divorce. So why can’t you?

One of the key things that fans happened to observe during Ben Affleck and Jennifer Lopez’s short-lived marriage is that the former tends to look depressed during his public outings.

Many attributed this as stemming from the ‘Accountant’ star’s marriage to the ‘Marry Me’ actress. One insider even dissed Lopez’s ‘Delola’ cocktail launch, calling it tone-deaf due to Affleck’s past struggles with alcohol.

What are Affleck’s past struggles with alcohol?

The star opened up about it in a 2022 interview with Howard Stern, suggesting that his struggling marriage with Garner contributed to it. “We had a marriage that didn’t work, this happens, with somebody that I love and respect, but to whom I shouldn’t be married any longer,” he said. “Ultimately, we tried. We tried, we tried because we had kids.”

“I was like ‘I can’t leave ’cause of my kids, but I’m not happy, what do I do?'” Affleck said. “What I did was drink a bottle of scotch and fall asleep on the couch, which turned out not to be the solution.”

In the same interview, he boldly claimed that if he hadn’t split from wife Garner in 2015, “I’d probably still be drinking. It’s part of why I started drinking. Because I was trapped.”

Obviously this led to some backlash at the time, but I’ll like to note that it’s not on the same level as the one Lopez got when she filed for divorce from Affleck – who by the way moved out and wasn’t ready to talk things through or suggest a means to fix their marriage – in August.

Ben Affleck Calls Jennifer Lopez “Spectacular” Amid Divorce Drama

Affleck and Lopez may be in the middle of a divorce, but that doesn’t mean that Affleck has lost all his love for the actress, singer and businesswoman.

In a new chat with Entertainment Tonight, he praised the short biographical sports drama, ‘Unstoppable,’ which he produced with Matt Damon and she starred. Don’t worry, Lopez got her own honorable mention and share of the praise.

“Unstoppable is a very different movie than this, but in a way, it’s similarly rooted in the passion of really talented artists,” he told the media outlet.

He continued to praise the cast for the wonderful work they did in bringing the movie to live. “It speaks to a certain kind of thing I guess we’re drawn to,” he said. “We really believe in the power of storytelling when the people involved in it are deeply connected to the story.”

“Jennifer’s spectacular,” he added, “We believed in the right people, and Unstoppable is another example of that.”

The movie will be available in select theaters on Dec. 6.
