Closing a chapter in life is not always so easy, especially if it’s something you enjoy doing. Likewise, Paul Giamatti isn’t ready to say goodbye to a character that he finally started to understand after playing him for 7 seasons.
Paul Giamatti Says He Isn’t Ready To Say Goodbye To Showtime Drama “Billions”
In October, hit Showtime drama aired its finale episode and fans finally started learning how to move on from the world created in “Billions” across its 7 seasons.
One person is having a harder time letting go, and it’s 56-year-old star Giamatti.
“I wish I could do it again,” Giamatti told PEOPLE during his interview about the Critics Choice Award-nominated Showtime drama.
To be honest, Giamatti would do the same for all his onscreen roles, including his Emmy-winning titular role in the 2008 miniseries “John Adams” to his scene-stealing, Oscar-nominated performance in 2005’s “Cinderella Man.”
You can already guess that he wouldn’t really want to change anything about them, because they’re epic just the way they are. He only wants to relive them.
“Pretty much anything I did, I wish I could go back and do it again now,” the four-time Emmy nominee said with a laugh.
Paul Giamatti – Names His “Billions” Character As the One He’s Played the Longest
In the hit legal drama, Giamatti played prosecutor Chuck Rhoades, a character hell-bent on bringing hedge fund manager Bobby “Axe” Axelrod (Damian Lewis) to justice.
Speaking to People, he called it the hardest endeavor of his career, especially due to the show’s long run.
“That’s the longest I’ve ever done anything, one character for that long,” he said. “By the end of it, I was very comfortable and sort of like, ‘Oh, I think I get this guy now.’ So in a way, yeah, I wish I could go back and start it again.”
The legal drama found inspiration in real-life federal prosecutions of financial crime. It’s now succeeded by four different spinoffs; “Billions: Miami,” “Billions: London,” “Trillions” and “Millions.”
As for ever returning to play the iconic character, he said, “I’d be a little bit more relaxed about it.”
