We’re officially in the era of reboots and revivals, but even so, “Everybody Loves Raymond“ is leaving its legacy just as it was when it ended in 2005 after its nine season run.
For once, someone in Hollywood has decided that leaving a legacy is better than chasing more cash.
Ray Romano – Doesn’t Want More “Everybody Loves Raymond”
You might know “Everybody Loves Raymond” as one of the best comedies of its time, and you may even think it’s not up for an argument.
Such was the strength of the legacy left behind by the CBS sitcom that it is still beloved and watched by many, either on syndicated reruns or streaming.
Despite its current popularity, fans will sadly not be getting any new shows. Appearing on Real Time, the main star and executive producer Ray Romano denied any plans of a reboot or revival.
He told Bill Maher that “it’s out of the question. They’re never as good, and we want to leave with our legacy as what it is.”
You can’t blame him for feeling that way; most of the reboots have sadly left fans so disgruntled as to dent its original legacy.
I mean, a “Friends” reboot would be nice, but more often than not, they’re not able to capture the essence of the original for fans to feel like they’re back in the world they’ve grown so fond of and know so well. And don’t get me started on spin-offs.
To further emphasize why the show has to stay exactly the way they left it in 2005, he noted that the stars who played his character’s parents are no more.
The said characters were played by the late Peter Boyle and Doris Roberts, who passed away in 2006 and 2016, respectively.
When the film ended in 2005, Romano said several cast members felt they could safely carry on, but that he and showrunner Phil Rosenthal “thought it was time.”
Even though a reboot has been ruled out, at least for now, there’s still the possibility that the show could do a reunion special, like “Friends” and “Harry Potter” famously did.
In the meantime, you can fill up your laugh box by streaming all the episodes on Peacock and Paramount+.
