Robert F. Kennedy Jr. (RFK) is making some major waves in the U.S. political scene as he throws his hat into the ring for the 2024 American presidential election, running as an independent candidate.
During a campaign event on Tuesday, March 26 in Oakland, California, he announced who his official vice-president would be, Nicole Shanahan.
More On RFK Jr.’s Running Mate Nicole Shanahan
Nicole Shanahan is from Oakland, which makes sense around why RFK Jr. chose that event to make his running mate announcement.
At the age of 38, she is a lawyer and philanthropist, and has never run for office before; however, was a noted supporter of RFK Jr. and paid for his controversial Super Bowl ad this year.
Kennedy Jr. Struggled With Various Options
Reports reveal that RFK Jr. vetted other possible running mates before deciding on Shanahan. Much like Nicole, not all were politicians, although it was believed that ex-Minnesota governor Jesse Ventura was an option, as well as Dirty Jobs’s Mike Rowe, civil rights attorney Tricia Lindsay, and NFL player, Aaron Rogers.
Amaryllis Fox, RFK Jr.’s campaign manager hopped on the social media platform, X, in mid-March to talk about his VP candidate contenders.
She notes that she “couldn’t say” a name but did reveal she was “thrilled” over his decision. She added that each of the contenders had their own incomparable experience, mindset, and skills, in different ways.
Kennedy Jr. Has An Uphill Battle, Even With Nicole Shanahan By His Side.
As an independent, Kennedy Jr. has an uphill battle, even with Nicole Shanahan by his side. While some celebrities have endorsed him, others are denying claims of supporting him in his bid to become the next President of the United States.
Still, as he’s not running as either a Democrat or Republican, at the very least, he’s offering the American people a third choice when it comes to the November 2024 election.
Interestingly enough, the Kennedy family has always run under the Democrat umbrella, and as RFK Jr. is an independent, with views that some of his family members don’t agree with, he hasn’t exactly garnered support from them.
