Whoopi Goldberg “Cannot Do” “Sister Act 3” Without Maggie Smith

Whoopi Goldberg recently issued a public plea to Maggie Smith, imploring her to return to “Sister Act 3”. It’s been many years since the last installment was released, yes, but “Sister Act” needs its Maggie for one more run.

While Goldberg has a list of new faces she hopes to see in the upcoming installment, she’s still aware fans of the show will be looking forward to seeing familiar faces and finding out how they’ve grown over 20 years since the last installment.

During her recent TV appearance on the “Loose Women” talk show on Friday, the EGOT winner, 67, publicly told British audiences that she’s got someone she really wants back for “Sister Act 3”.

“I want to let Maggie Smith know that I’m holding the part of Mother Superior for you, because I just can’t do it with anybody but you,” Goldberg said into the camera.

In order not to stress out Maggie with flights and all, Goldberg added that she’s ready to come to her, saying, “So, if you need me to come over here and shoot it and do whatever we have to do, we will do whatever you want us to do. But we don’t want to do it without you, Maggie.”

Goldberg and Smith, 88, costared in the 1992 comedy about a lounge singer who sees her married boyfriend kill someone. In order to keep her safe until the day of trial, a policeman takes her to a church and tells her to assume the identity of a nun. This plan doesn’t quite go as planned as Goldberg’s Deloris is far from being your average meek nun.

Smith, even in her twilight years has remained busy with acting projects, most recently reprising her role as Violet Grantham in the hit series “Downton Abbey: New Era.”

Smith returned alongside Golderg for its 1993 follow-up.

“It took a little while, but it’s happening. You all helped that happen, I think, because they brought Hocus Pocus back,” Goldberg announced at the time, crediting fellow “Sister Act” costar Kathy Najimy with indirectly helping the sequel to take off, especially with the success of her movie “Hocus Pocus 2” “They finally said, ‘We might as well put those nuns back out there and see if they have any juice.’ “

Najimy, 65, told Goldberg: “I think it’d be a blast of fun. I look forward to the nuns that we were with that are still with us, seeing them again, they were fantastic, so much fun.”

Another time, Goldberg named the stars she dreams would make an appearance in the third part of “Sister Act”. They are Keke Palmer, Lizzo and Nicki Minaj. Palmer, 29, replied by saying she’s “ready for whatever.”

In 2020, it was confirmed that Goldberg would be starring in and producing the third installment for Disney+, alongside Tyler Perry.
