Whoopi Goldberg Disagrees With Charlize Theron’s Thoughts On Kim Kardashian’s Movie Power

In a recent interview with The Hollywood Reporter, Charlize Theron was asked how she felt about no longer having “the same currency to get things made as you once did,” Theron answered by saying that she thinks a reality TV star has more influence in getting things done more than the legends of the Hollywood movie industry.

Citing Kim Kardashian as an example, Theron said she thinks Kim is more capable of getting a movie greenlight than the iconic Meryl Streep.

In Theron’s words, “The market is really different today, and the fame that worked 20 years ago, the fame that was cash in the bank, is different now,”

“We are living in a time of reality television, and God knows I love me some reality TV. So, the marketplace of what Kim Kardashian represents — and not in a negative way because I watch everything that she does — has way more value than what Meryl Streep, one of the greatest actresses working, does.”

Theron went on to add that “And that’s just the truth. They have very different skills, but if you were Kim Kardashian, you’d probably get way more off the ground.”

During this Thursday’s episode of “The View” co-host Whoopi Goldberg addressed Theron’s thoughts on Kim Kardashian having more power than Meryl Streep when it comes to pulling a movie greenlit.

The star of “Sister Act” Goldberg, 67, completely disagreed with Theron’s point of view. According to Goldberg, Kim Kardashian has no “power” over that.

“I don’t think that’s true. Kim Kardashian can’t get a movie greenlit, or it would’ve happened. She can’t do that. She can get television shows made, maybe, but that’s about it. She can maybe be instrumental in helping things happen, but I’ll tell you, Charlize, you’ve got more pull in the industry than I’ve got in the industry. You get stuff done faster than I can. Till took me 11 years.”

Goldberg noted that there are lots of great actors who can “make things happen” but she doesn’t know them all. “So, there are things, there are people who can make things happen, but I don’t know all that many people other than a lot of men who can get stuff greenlit like that.”

Whoopi Goldberg — Whoopi Doffed Her Hat For Kim Kardashian

While Goldberg explained that she had no intention of bringing Kim down, she also said that “Warner Bros. is not going to say yes to a movie because she wants to do it.”

While they were discussing the possibility of Kim having such power, Goldberg’s co-host Joy Behar added that Kim has an army of 355 followers on her Instagram account so she might very well have such power.

Goldberg didn’t waste time in telling Behar that it’s not about the number of social media followers, that having followers “does not necessarily mean asses in seats, It can mean asses in seats on couches. Listen, everybody has their power. Meryl Streep can get a movie made.”

Talking about Kim’s talent, Goldberg said, “The bottom line is this. The idea that Kim Kardashian can get stuff done is real, and her talent, I’m going to tell you what it is. She took a crap situation and made it golden, not only golden, but she and her family said, ‘You will not speak about us that way.’ That’s not who we are,'”

In conclusion, Goldberg said, “What it says to mothers and daughters out there is, no matter how people come at you, there’s a better way we can move forward and up, not backwards, and that’s her talent, that’s the magic of the Kardashians. I tip my hat to them. I mean it.”
