The beloved star of so many great shows and movies it’s hard to quantify is taking some tough hits over the controversial statements she made regarding the Holocaust. In a statement to People, ABC News President Kim Godwin confirmed that Goldberg was being penalized for “her wrong and hurtful comments.”
Keep reading and we’ll discuss how Mel Gibson got mixed up in this conversation.
ABC President Kim Godwin Asks Goldberg To ‘Reflect And Learn’
In her statement Godwin elaborated, adding, “While Whoopi has apologized, I’ve asked her to take time and reflect and learn about the impact of her comments. The entire ABC News organization stands in solidarity with our Jewish colleagues, friends, family, and communities.”
Goldberg has previously apologized on more than one occasion and specifically on The View for making comments that the Holocaust “wasn’t about race.” After acknowledging the hurt she, no doubt, caused the actor went on to show gratitude for the learning opportunity.
Actor Joshua Molina Says Whoopi’s No Mel Gibson
Per Page Six, actor Joshua Molina said he doesn’t liken Whoopi Goldberg to “Jew-hater” Mel Gibson. “To me, there is a bad person who is a Jew-hater, and then there’s Whoopi Goldberg, who misspoke or needed to clarify or educate or discuss,” the Scandal star explained, adding, “She’s getting a two-week suspension [from ‘The View’], and he [Gibson], every time I turn on my computer, he’s starring in a new movie. Apparently, he’s potentially going to direct ‘Lethal Weapon 5.’ Let’s keep our focus on the worst of it. I find it appalling.”
Not only did Goldberg apologize on The View, but she also had public discussions with Anti-Defamation League CEO Jonathan Greenblatt, to further educate herself. Mel Gibson, on the other hand, is widely known for making some pretty upsetting remarks about the Jewish people, LGBTQ+ community members, women, and Black people, that date back all the way to the 90s.
Molina Calls Out Networks For Still Working With Gibson Despite Sustained Bigotry
In a 2006 DUI stop; Gibson told the traffic officer that Jews were “responsible for all the wars in the world.” He later chalked that up to being drunk – a move that made his apology seem empty.
According to Molina, there is just no comparison between Goldberg’s error and Gibson’s sustained racism throughout the years. The actor has consistently criticized companies like Warner Bros. for continuing to work with Gibson despite his racism.
