Whoopi Goldberg Reveals She Would Quit ‘The View’ If She Could Afford To

Whoopi Goldberg understands what the average American is going through, because she is more or less going through it herself. Here’s what she said about being financially squeezed and having to put up with staying on as ‘The View’s’ moderator.

Whoopi Goldberg Wouldn’t Be On ‘The View’ Today If She Had More Money

Like so many Americans who can’t afford to leave their jobs if they want to keep meeting up with the family’s bills, Goldberg can’t afford to leave ‘The View.’

Since joining the show in 2007, Goldberg has been co-hosting the popular ABC daytime show, making her the longest serving member on the panel.

Naturally, we thought Goldberg stayed on as long as she did because she loved the job so much – the banter, the jokes, the occasional stirring up of controversies – but it turns out she would have left much sooner had her bank account allowed her to.

“I appreciate that people are having a hard time. Me too. I work for a living,” she said. “If I had all the money in the world, I would not be here, OK? So, I’m a working person, you know?… My kid has to feed her family. My great-granddaughter has to be fed by her family. I know it’s hard out there.”

It’s surprising really to hear Goldberg speak of having financial strains when CelebrityNetWorth estimates her net worth to be around $30 million. I know a lot of us, including me, are pretty convinced that if we were worth that much, we wouldn’t have a care in the world, but I guess that’s where the logic “more money, more problems” comes in.

However, EGOT winner Goldberg is not the only celebrity with a fantastic net worth to have faced financial troubles. Remember Award-winning director Francis Ford Coppola with all his money?

Yeah, he’s filed for bankruptcy at least three times. And the famous Mike Tyson with all his $400 million actually ran out of money so much so he did stand-up comedy to afford to get by.

True story. Happily, I heard his boxing match with Logan Paul put enough money in his pocket as to enjoy this coming holidays.

This story makes you want to be financially smart, doesn’t it? After all, a study conducted by the Pew Research Center found that in 2023, roughly 11 million Americans aged 65 and older are still employed. To topple this is a recent survey by LiveCareer that shows that 61% of Americans fear retirement more than death.
