Whoopi Goldberg Reveals Why She Won’t Be Making A Return To Kennedy Center Anytime Soon

Trust Whoopi Goldberg to say her mind, even when her mind can divide the whole internet. This time, she’s calling out a particular change made by one of her oldest enemies, aka the current US President Donald Trump. Here’s what she has to say about why and how she’s rejecting the Kennedy Center changes.

Whoopi Goldberg Joins Other Creatives to Protest Donald Trump’s Takeover of the Kennedy Center for the Arts

Don’t expect Goldberg to return to the Kennedy Center anytime soon, not unless one Mr. President undoes all the changes he recently made.

‘Hamilton’ producers recently revealed that the president’s war on woke culture was the reason they chose to cancel the award-winning show’s slated 2026 run.

Speaking on this, Goldberg shared, “I understand why they did it, and I have no plans to go back to the Kennedy Center, until the Kennedy Center becomes what it was supposed to be. And that was a welcome place for all artists, no matter what your groove is. You know, they did not make judgements about the people they put in there.”

She was also not happy about how Trump took over the Kennedy Center without as much as allowing any space for discussion.

“It was a big smack to the arts, which do not have a politics,” she said on ‘The View’s’ latest episode. “The politics are, look at the differences in the actors. That’s the real statement. That’s why they came out and made those statements, because people were messing with them, because Hamilton did not look like Hamilton.”

Fun fact: ‘Hamilton’ was not very popular with everyone when it first hit the stage, since some found it difficult to reconcile with the fact that black people played various roles as the Founding Fathers.

This is not a design flaw, in case you’re wondering, but a decision that serves to ground one of the show’s main themes, which is that immigrants played a key role to the founding of America.

Choosing to protest what he saw as injustice, the show’s creator Lin-Manuel Miranda made the decision to cancel the show.

“This latest action by Trump means it’s not the Kennedy Center as we knew it,” Lin-Manuel Miranda said in a statement shared on Wednesday. “The Kennedy Center was not created in this spirit, and we are not going to be a part of it while it is the Trump Kennedy Center. We are just not going to be part of it.”
