The escalating California wildfires recently brought unexpected visitors to Ben Affleck’s Brentwood home, as FBI agents and Los Angeles law enforcement were seen outside the actor’s property over the weekend. While Affleck himself is not under investigation, the visit was tied to the broader implications of the destructive fires and associated incidents.
FBI Investigation into Drone Interference
According to the FBI’s Ground Intercept Task Force, agents were conducting operations in the area as part of an investigation into unauthorized drone activity.
A spokesperson for the FBI clarified: “Members of the FBI’s Ground Intercept task force are conducting activity in the area of the Palisades fire relative to unauthorized drone activity. Agents and our local partners may be visible throughout the area, including at various residences, for this reason.”
Authorities believe a privately owned drone collided with a “Super Scooper” firefighting aircraft, causing significant damage to the plane’s left wing. The collision forced the aircraft to land for repairs, delaying crucial fire suppression efforts by 20 to 30 minutes.
Akil Davis, assistant director of the FBI’s Los Angeles field office, emphasized the severity of such incidents: “That technique, using the Super Scooper aircraft, are our most effective technique to fight fires like this, and when this happens, it puts everybody’s lives at risk.”
Super Scooper planes are vital in firefighting operations, flying low to gather water, which they drop over wildfire areas. The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) has restricted airspace over wildfire zones to prevent further interference.
Ben Affleck’s Evacuation and Family Support
Last week, Affleck—who shares three children with ex-wife Jennifer Garner—was forced to evacuate his $20 million home due to the encroaching Palisades Fire.
He temporarily sought refuge at Garner’s residence, where she lives with their children: Violet, 19, Seraphina, 16, and Samuel, 12.
Photos captured by media outlets showed the “Good Will Hunting” actor driving to Garner’s home with a visibly concerned expression. A day later, Affleck returned to his property after learning that it had not been damaged, though it remains under evacuation orders.
An insider shared, “Ben’s home is still under evacuation order, but he feels so grateful his property is safe for the time being.”
Emotional Moments and Continued Support
On Saturday, Affleck was seen sharing an emotional hug with his eldest daughter outside his home. The actor has reportedly been in regular contact with his second ex-wife, Jennifer Lopez, who has been checking in on him and his children. A source close to Lopez said she’s been offering her support and letting him know she’s there for him and the kids.
Jennifer Garner, who has been volunteering with World Central Kitchen to assist wildfire evacuees, revealed the personal toll of the disaster.
During an interview with MSNBC, she shared, “I did lose a friend, and for our church, it’s really tender so I don’t feel like we should talk about her yet. I did lose a friend who did not get out in time.” Garner also noted the immense loss faced by the community: “I can think of 100 families, and there are 5,000 homes lost.”
The Palisades Fire is just one of the many blazes ravaging California, with thousands of residents displaced and significant damage to property. Fire crews are battling to contain the flames as strong Santa Ana winds threaten to intensify the fires.
In Ventura County, a new blaze, dubbed the Auto Fire, has already scorched 56 acres but has been halted to the river bottom area of Oxnard. However, officials remain on high alert as conditions worsen.
Security Measures And Local Arrests
A curfew from 6 p.m. to 6 a.m. has been imposed to curb looting in evacuation zones. Law enforcement has made multiple arrests for violations of these measures, including two individuals apprehended near Vice President Kamala Harris’s Brentwood residence.
While their suspected involvement in burglaries could not be proven, they were detained for curfew violations.
As the wildfires continue to impact lives, communities across California are rallying to support those affected. Despite the devastation, acts of resilience and compassion, like those shown by Affleck, Garner, and many others, highlight the unbreakable spirit of those facing adversity.
