According to Newsweek, TMZ, Variety, and Billboard, all broke the news when the 44-year-old rapper dropped out of the event. Though many are sure to wonder why, the reasons may be a bit ambiguous. Continue reading and we’ll tell you what has been learned so far.
Kanye West – Information Is Scant
The exact reasons why the music producer pulled out of the two-weekend California Music Festival are not being divulged. However, a source did tell Variety that West, who legally changed his name to Ye, wasn’t even prepared for his performance and hadn’t rehearsed.
The lyricist was expected to perform, headlined by Harry Styles and Billie Eilish, according to sources. The festival, which has occurred every year since 1999, runs from April 15 – 17 as well as April 22 – 24. Though Newsweek has reached out to both Ye’s representatives and Coachella, they apparently are not responding.
Kanye West – Trouble With Billie Eilish, Travis Scott And The ‘Astroworld’ Tragedy
Ye fans may recall that Kanye West headlined at Coachella 11 years ago in 2011 and has not performed on his own since. But, according to Newsweek, the rapper has made guest appearances during sets by The Weeknd in 2015 and Kid Cudi in 2019.
While his reasoning is not yet clear, the rapper has said previously that he would not perform unless Eilish apologized to the “Astroworld” rapper and boyfriend of Kylie Jenner, Travis Scott. The Yeezy mogul intimated that Eilish had insulted Travis Scott, whom Ye had intended to feature in his set at Coachella when she paused a shit to help a fan.
Readers may recall the “AstroWorld” tragedy when eight concertgoers were crushed by the crowd. For her part, Eilish has stated that she “literally never said a thing about Travis” and that she was simply helping a fan. In a clip captured by a fan Eilish can be seen saying, “We’re taking care of our people” adding that she waits for people to be OK before continuing.
Why Kanye West Got Banned From Grammy Awards
Kanye was previously banned from the Grammy Awards earlier this month due to “concerning online behavior,” a representative for West confirmed to Newsweek. These developments occurred after West referred to the television presenter as a “k**n.”
In a since-deleted post, the Yeezy mogul wrote next to an image of Noah, “All together now… K**n baya my lord k**n baya k**n baya my lord K**n baya Oooo’ lord K**n baya.” This was in response to Noah describing the dynamic between West, Kim Kardashian, and SNL comedian Pete Davidson.
