Will said he thought to himself “This is either going to be a home run or people are going to go, ‘Whatever happened to you? Why did you do that one about the elf?'”

Will Ferrell — Richard Curtis Believes Will Ferrell Deserves To Receive An Oscar Nomination For Elf

While attending the Oscar Wilde Awards 2022, Richard Curtis voiced his opinion on how he thinks Will Ferrell deserves to be nominated for an Oscar Award for his role as Buddy the Elf.

The filmmaker said it made him very antsy when Will Ferrell didn’t get nominated for his role in Elf. He went ahead and said that, had Will Ferrell been nominated, he would have voted for him, because he was rooting for Will, but “he was never given the chance” to do so.

Curtis also took the liberty to express his disappointment over the fact that Peter Sellers was also not nominated for his role as Inspector Jacques Clouseau in The Pink Panther film series.

He went further to say: “I think it’s a real issue that comedy isn’t respected as much…but I do try and push for comedy performances whenever I can.”

He continued: “it’s the price you pay, as it were. Comedies tend to make a bit of money, and then you don’t get the prizes.”
