Will Smith Drops Another ‘The Matrix’-Inspired Teaser Ahead Of New Single Release

We had barely recovered from the festivities of the New Year when Will Smith shocked us with an unwarranted ‘The Matrix’ post.

It sent fans into a spiral, as they tried to come up with reasonable theories as to why “the Matrix would have Will,” so to speak.

Alas, a producer came forward and crushed any dreams we had of the ‘I Am Legend’ star having a Matrix spinoff of his own. But that doesn’t mean he’s done with all things ‘The Matrix.’

Big Sean Hints Will Smith Regrets Passing Over the Lead Role In ‘The Matrix’ In ‘Beautiful Scars’ Trailer

This week, fans will get their hands on a Big Sean and Will Smith collab called ‘Beautiful Scars,’ but before that, more ‘The Matrix’ crumbs.

Well, as the story goes, Will Smith was offered the role of Neo in ‘The Matrix,’ but passed it up so that he can star in 1999’s ‘Wild Wild West.’ He had been so chill about it throughout the years, but 2025 seems to be about revisiting that moment in time.

In the trailer, we see Smith and Big Sean do their best Neo and Morpheus impressions as they work out which course of action best changes their past: the red or the blue pill.

“Look, you’ve made some awesome career choices your whole life,” the Detroit rapper tells Smith.

There’s only one you truly regret. Well, maybe two. But we’re not gonna focus on that one.” The blue pill means Will Smith’s life will remain as is, but the red means he’d get the chance to go back to the past and change the one thing he regrets the most, which in this case would be turning down ‘The Matrix’ role.

“I really like my life right now,” Smith replies, but nevertheless takes both pills and drinks it down. A confused Big Sean mutters, “That wasn’t even an option.”

‘Beautiful Scars’ will mark the first time Smith and Sean are working on a musical project together.

Will Smith Shares ‘The Matrix’ Clip that Seemingly Teases A Reboot

On Jan. 6, Smith sent the internet buzzing when he shared a short clip that seemed to point at a possible ‘The Matrix’ reboot featuring Will Smith.

“In the 1990s, the Wachowskis offered Will Smith the role of Neo in The Matrix. Smith turned it down. He chose Wild Wild West, believing it was a better fit for him at the time. But the question remains… What would The Matrix have been with Will Smith as Neo?”

“Wake up Will…” the writing in the clip reads, adding, “The Matrix Has You.”

While some fans saw the potential in Will Smith joining the franchise, others slammed it as a poor choice. What do you think?
