However, beyond getting snubbed for a Golden Globe award, Smith reportedly worries that his future looks grim throughout awards season. And once again, the cause seems to be that Oscars outburst. Will had seen his film Emancipation as his comeback. But nine months after that slap, awards season seems set to overlook Smith.

And the actor doesn’t appear willing to give up. For instance, insiders see signs that the former superstar has planned a so-called apology tour. But Will, 54, received not even one nomination for his thriller Emancipation. Could that convince Smith to lay low for awhile?

Will Smith – Hopes Movie Won’t Suffer Penalties For His ‘Actions’

In the wake of that Oscars slap, Smith viewed his movie as his path to returning to superstar status. However, in a recent interview, Will seemed to take a step back. And he said, “I completely understand” those who don’t want to see his movie. “If someone is not ready, I would absolutely respect that and allow them their space to not be ready. The people on this team have done some of the best work of their entire careers,” added the actor. “And my deepest hope is that my actions don’t penalize my team. At this point, that’s what I’m working for.”

But what Smith views as his “actions” remain a major obstacle for some. Taking place at the 94th Academy Awards on Monday, March 27, the problems began when Chris Rock took the stage. The comedian commented on the shaved head of Will’s wife Jada Pinkett Smith.

And because Jada has discussed her health condition causing hair loss, Rock’s joke seemed inconsiderate. However, her husband got so angry that he walked up to the stage and slapped the comedian. That assault took place shortly before Smith won the Best Actor award.

Does Will – Smith Need To Do More To Make Amends For Slap?

Ever since Smith slapped Rock, industry insiders have debated about what Will needs to do to return to his career without further penalties. Because when Will earned that Best Actor award, his acceptance speech included zero apologies to Chris. And instead, the actor wept as he declared, “Love makes you do crazy things.”

However, Smith did use his acceptance speech to apologize to the Academy and the other nominees for that category. And the Academy took action. The actor received a ban of 10 years, with a scolding statement that Will “overshadowed [the awards] by the unacceptable and harmful behavior we saw Mr. Smith exhibit on stage.”

But Smith waited four months to apologize to Rock. And in a YouTube video, he stated, “Chris, I apologize to you. My behavior was unacceptable.” And he added, “I’m here whenever you’re ready to talk.” However, Will shared that Rock does not feel ready to discuss the situation.
